The effective length method [1, 2] has been used to make systematic calculations of the heat transfer for laminar and turbulent boundary layers on slender blunt-nosed cones at small angles of attack ( + 5° in a separationless hypersonic air stream dissociating in equilibrium (half-angles of the cones 0 20°, angles of attack 0 15°, Mach numbers 5 M 25). The parameters of the gas at the outer edge of the boundary layer were taken equal to the inviscid parameters on the surface of the cones. The results of laboratory observations of the deformation of deep water gravity waves leading to wave breaking are reported. The specially developed visualization technique which was used is described. A preliminary analysis of the results has led to similar conclusions than recently developed theories. We find the asymptotic behavior of the homogenized coefficients of elasticity for the chess-board structure. In the chess board white and black cells are isotropic and have Lamé constants (, ,) and (, ) respectively. We assume that the black cells are soft, so 0. An experimental apparatus for investigating Rayleigh-Taylor instability in the transition layer between two gases at accelerations g 105g0 (g0 is the acceleration of gravity) is described. The constantly acting acceleration is communicated to the contact zone by the compression wave formed ahead of a flame front. The linear stage of development is investigated together with the effect of the thickness of the contact zone. It is shown that on the interval 0.3 < <- ( is the wavelength of the disturbance at the edge of the contact zone) the rate of growth of the perturbation amplitude 0.50, where 0 is the amplitude growth rate for media separated by an interface with a discontinuous change of density.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 6, pp. 15–21, November–December, 1991.  相似文献

Summary TheCross equation describes the flow of pseudoplastic liquids in terms of an upper and a lower Newtonian viscosity corresponding to infinite and zero shear, and 0, and of a third material constant related to the mechanism of rupture of linkages between particles in the intermediate, non-Newtonian flow regime, Calculation of of bulk polymers is important, since it cannot be determined experimentally. The equation was applied to the melt flow data of two low density polyethylenes at three temperatures.Using data in the non-Newtonian region covering 3 decades of shear rate to extrapolate to the zero-shear viscosity resulted in errors amounting to about onethird of the measured 0 values. The extrapolated upper Newtonian viscosity was found to be independent of temperature within the precision of the data, indicating that it has a small activation energy.The 0 values were from 100 to 1,400 times larger than the values at the corresponding temperatures.The values of were large compared to the values found for colloidal dispersions and polymer solutions, but decreased with increasing temperature. This shows that shear is the main factor in reducing chain entanglements, but that the contribution of Brownian motion becomes greater at higher temperatures.
Zusammenfassung Die Gleichung vonCross beschreibt das Fließverhalten von pseudoplastischen Flüssigkeiten durch drei Konstante: Die obereNewtonsche Viskosität (bei sehr hohen Schergeschwindigkeiten), die untereNewtonsche Viskosität 0 (bei Scherspannung Null), und eine Materialkonstante, die vom Brechen der Bindungen zwischen Partikeln im nicht-Newtonschen Fließbereich abhängt. Die Berechnung von ist wichtig für unverdünnte Polymere, wo man sie nicht messen kann.Die Gleichung wurde auf das Fließverhalten der Schmelzen von zwei handelsüblichen Hochdruckpolyäthylenen bei drei Temperaturen angewandt. Die Werte von 0, durch Extrapolation von gemessenen scheinbaren Viskositäten im Schergeschwindigkeitsbereich von 10 bis 4000 sec–1 errechnet, wichen bis 30% von den gemessenen 0-Werten ab. Die Aktivierungsenergie der war so klein, daß die-Werte bei den drei Temperaturen innerhalb der Genauigkeit der Extrapolation anscheinend gleich waren. Die 0-Werte waren 100 bis 1400 mal größer als die-Werte.Im Verhältnis zu kolloidalen Dispersionen und verdünnten Polymerlösungen war das der Schmelzen groß, nahm aber mit steigender Temperatur ab. Deshalb wird die Verhakung der Molekülketten hauptsächlich durch Scherbeanspruchung vermindert, aber der Beitrag derBrownschen Bewegung nimmt mit steigender Temperatur zu.

The documentation and control of flow disturbances downstream of various open inlet contractions was the primary focus with which to evaluate a spatial sampling technique. An X-wire probe was rotated about the center of a cylindrical test section at a radius equal to one-half that of the test section. This provided quasi-instantaneous multi-point measurements of the streamwise and azimuthal components of the velocity to investigate the temporal and spatial characteristics of the flowfield downstream of various contractions. The extent to which a particular contraction is effective in controlling ingested flow disturbances was investigated by artificially introducing disturbances upstream of the contractions. Spatial as well as temporal mappings of various quantities are presented for the streamwise and azimuthal components of the velocity. Results are presented of a study of the gasdynamic parameters and the geometric characteristics of the mixing zone of axisymmetric jets of gases of differing density (Freon-12, air, and helium) propagating in a parallel air stream, within the limits of the initial segment (0x/R3–30). In a previous derivation of Darcy's law, the closure problem was presented in terms of an integro-differential equation for a second-order tensor. In this paper, we show that the closure problem can be transformed to a set of Stokes-like equations and we compare solutions of these equations with experimental data. We consider the equation u t =((u) (u x )) x , where >0 and where is a strictly increasing function with lim s = <. We solve the associated Cauchy problem for an increasing initial function, and discuss to what extent the solution behaves qualitatively like solutions of the first-order conservation law u t = ((u)) x . Equations of this type arise, for example, in the theory of phase transitions where the corresponding free-energy functional has a linear growth rate with respect to the gradient.  相似文献

Linear and nonlinear viscoelastic properties were examined for a 50 wt% suspension of spherical silica particles (with radius of 40 nm) in a viscous medium, 2.27/1 (wt/wt) ethylene glycol/glycerol mixture. The effective volume fraction of the particles evaluated from zero-shear viscosities of the suspension and medium was 0.53. At a quiescent state the particles had a liquid-like, isotropic spatial distribution in the medium. Dynamic moduli G* obtained for small oscillatory strain (in the linear viscoelastic regime) exhibited a relaxation process that reflected the equilibrium Brownian motion of those particles. In the stress relaxation experiments, the linear relaxation modulus G(t) was obtained for small step strain (0.2) while the nonlinear relaxation modulus G(t, ) characterizing strong stress damping behavior was obtained for large (>0.2). G(t, ) obeyed the time-strain separability at long time scales, and the damping function h() (–G(t, )/G(t)) was determined. Steady flow measurements revealed shear-thinning of the steady state viscosity () for small shear rates (< –1; = linear viscoelastic relaxation time) and shear-thickening for larger (>–1). Corresponding changes were observed also for the viscosity growth and decay functions on start up and cessation of flow, + (t, ) and (t, ). In the shear-thinning regime, the and dependence of +(t,) and (t,) as well as the dependence of () were well described by a BKZ-type constitutive equation using the G(t) and h() data. On the other hand, this equation completely failed in describing the behavior in the shear-thickening regime. These applicabilities of the BKZ equation were utilized to discuss the shearthinning and shear-thickening mechanisms in relation to shear effects on the structure (spatial distribution) and motion of the suspended particles.Dedicated to the memory of Prof. Dale S. The results of the hydraulic studies of gas-liquid media, wave processes in two-phase media and critical phenomena are described. Some methodological foundations to describe these media and methods to obtain the basic similarity criteria for the hydraulics and gas-dynamics of bubble suspensions are discussed. Zusammenfassung Zur Berechnung turbulenter Strömungen wird das k--Modell im Ansatz für die turbulente Scheinzähigkeit erweitert, so daß es den Querkrümmungs- und Dichteeinfluß auf den turbulenten Transportaustausch erfaßt. Die dabei zu bestimmenden Konstanten werden derart festgelegt, daß die bestmögliche Übereinstimmung zwischen Berechnung und Messung erzielt wird. Die numerische Integration der Grenzschichtgleichungen erfolgt unter Verwendung einer Transformation mit dem Differenzenverfahren vom Hermiteschen Typ. Das erweiterte Modell wird auf rotationssymmetrische Freistrahlen veränderlicher Dichte angewendet und zeigt Übereinstimmung zwischen Rechnung und Experiment.
On the influence of transvers-curvature and density in inhomogeneous turbulent free jets
The prediction of turbulent flows based on the k- model is extended to include the influence of transverse-curvature and density on the turbulent transport mechanisms. The empirical constants involved are adjusted such that the best agreement between predictions and experimental results is obtained. Using a transformation the boundary layer equations are solved numerically by means of a finite difference method of Hermitian type. The extended model is applied to predict the axisymmetric jet with variable density. The results of the calculations are in agreement with measurements.

A solution is obtained for the relationship between load, displacement and inner contact radius for an axisymmetric, spherically concave, rigid punch, indenting an elastic half-space. Analytic approximations are developed for the limiting cases in which the ratio of the inner and outer radii of the annular contact region is respectively small and close to unity. Successive tests of subjects' performance in reaction time tasks were treated as time series and submitted to spectrum analysis. Rather than revealing the white noise expected by the view that variability is due to random error (equivalent power across frequency), the power spectra revealed colored noise. The slopes of the power spectra did not vary much for tasks differing in memory requirements. Spectrum analysis of time series from the logistic map also showed colored noise in regions on the edge of chaos, showing that the presence of colored noise in cognitive data need not oblige a theoretical account based on a complex, high-dimensional, system.  相似文献

The stability of the steady self-similar flow in the boundary layer on a rotating disk of infinite radius with corotation of the surrounding fluid is analyzed by the normal mode method. The spectral problem for infinitesimal three-dimensional disturbances is solved by a collocation method with expansion of the amplitude functions in Chebyshev polynomials. It is established that for all values of the parameter 0, equal to the ratio of the angular velocities of the fluid and the disk, the lower critical Reynolds number is determined byA-type, waves, whose development is governed by the parallel instability mechanism typical of an Ekman layer. TheB-type instability, associated with the presence of an inflection point on the velocity profile, disappears when 4. The neutral surfaces are calculated for Karman flow (=0) and Bödewadt flow (). It is found that in Karman flowA-type waves may grow at values of the Reynolds number several times smaller than the critical Reynolds number for spiral vortices. Summary In this note the Author gives a general and unified treatment of first order phase equilibria for classical bodies like those considered by Truesdell and Toupin in[3].The Author reaches a system of partial differential equations (generalized Clapeyron equations) the conditions of whose solution are shown always to be satisfied.In particular, the Author derives the equations governing the polarized phase equilibrium for a fluid.Besides the equations ruling the phase equilibrium for a two phase n-component fluid mixture are given and the equivalence with the statical Gibbs-Duhem relation is shown.
Sommario In questa nota l'Autore presenta una trattazione generale ed unificata degli equilibri di fase del primo ordine per corpi classici come quelli definiti da Truesdell e Toupin in[3].L'Autore perviene ad un sistema di equazioni alle derivate parziali (equazioni di Clapeyron generalizzate) del quale si dimostra la integrabilità.In particolare, si deducono le equazioni che governano gli equilibri di fase polarizzati.Inoltre si ottengono le equazioni che regolano l'equilibrio di fase per una miscela fluida a n componenti; in questo caso si dimostra l'equivalenza delle equazioni con la relazione statica di Gibbs-Duhem.
