Summary. We consider two level overlapping Schwarz domain decomposition methods for solving the finite element problems that arise from discretizations of elliptic problems on general unstructured meshes in two and three dimensions. Standard finite element interpolation from the coarse to the fine grid may be used. Our theory requires no assumption on the substructures that constitute the whole domain, so the substructures can be of arbitrary shape and of different size. The global coarse mesh is allowed to be non-nested to the fine grid on which the discrete problem is to be solved, and neither the coarse mesh nor the fine mesh need be quasi-uniform. In addition, the domains defined by the fine and coarse grid need not be identical. The one important constraint is that the closure of the coarse grid must cover any portion of the fine grid boundary for which Neumann boundary conditions are given. In this general setting, our algorithms have the same optimal convergence rate as the usual two level overlapping domain decomposition methods on structured meshes. The condition number of the preconditioned system depends only on the (possibly small) overlap of the substructures and the size of the coarse grid, but is independent of the sizes of the subdomains. In this paper, we develop a two-grid method (TGM) based on the FEM for 2D nonlinear time fractional two-term mixed sub-diffusion and diffusion wave equations. A two-grid algorithm is proposed for solving the nonlinear system, which consists of two steps: a nonlinear FE system is solved on a coarse grid, then the linearized FE system is solved on the fine grid by Newton iteration based on the coarse solution. The fully discrete numerical approximation is analyzed, where the Galerkin finite element method for the space derivatives and the finite difference scheme for the time Caputo derivative with order $\alpha\in(1,2)$ and $\alpha_{1}\in(0,1)$. Numerical stability and optimal error estimate $O(h^{r+1}+H^{2r+2}+\tau^{\min\{3-\alpha,2-\alpha_{1}\}})$ in $L^{2}$-norm are presented for two-grid scheme, where $t,$ $H$ and $h$ are the time step size, coarse grid mesh size and fine grid mesh size, respectively. Finally, numerical experiments are provided to confirm our theoretical results and effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.  相似文献

A two‐grid finite volume element method, combined with the modified method of characteristics, is presented and analyzed for semilinear time‐dependent advection‐dominated diffusion equations in two space dimensions. The solution of a nonlinear system on the fine‐grid space (with grid size h) is reduced to the solution of two small (one linear and one nonlinear) systems on the coarse‐grid space (with grid size H) and a linear system on the fine‐grid space. An optimal error estimate in H1 ‐norm is obtained for the two‐grid method. It shows that the two‐grid method achieves asymptotically optimal approximation, as long as the mesh sizes satisfy h = O(H2). Numerical example is presented to validate the usefulness and efficiency of the method. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq, 2013  相似文献

A two‐grid stabilized mixed finite element method based on pressure projection stabilization is proposed for the two‐dimensional Darcy‐Forchheimer model. We use the derivative of a smooth function, , to approximate the derivative of in constructing the two‐grid algorithm. The two‐grid method consists of solving a small nonlinear system on the coarse mesh and then solving a linear system on the fine mesh. There are a substantial reduction in computational cost. We prove the existence and uniqueness of solution of the discrete schemes on the coarse grid and the fine grid and obtain error estimates for the two‐grid algorithm. Finally, some numerical experiments are carried out to verify the accuracy and efficiency of the method.  相似文献

The solution of nonlinear two-point boundary value problems by adaptive finite difference methods ordinarily proceeds from a coarse to a fine grid. Grid points are inserted in regions of high spatial activity and the coarse grid solution is then interpolated onto the finer mesh. The resulting nonlinear difference equations are often solved by Newton's method. As the size of the mesh spacing becomes small enough. Newton's method converges with only a few iterations. In this paper we derive an estimate that enables us to determine the size of the critical mesh spacing that assures us that the interpolated solution for a class of two-point boundary value problems will lie in the domain of convergence of Newton's method on the next finer grid. We apply the estimate in the solution of several model problems.  相似文献

A conservative two‐grid finite element scheme is presented for the two‐dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger equation. One Newton iteration is applied on the fine grid to linearize the fully discrete problem using the coarse‐grid solution as the initial guess. Moreover, error estimates are conducted for the two‐grid method. It is shown that the coarse space can be extremely coarse, with no loss in the order of accuracy, and still achieve the asymptotically optimal approximation as long as the mesh sizes satisfy in the two‐grid method. The numerical results show that this method is very effective.  相似文献

In this paper, we develop several two‐grid methods for the Nédélec edge finite element approximation of the time‐harmonic Maxwell equations. We first present a two‐grid method that uses a coarse space to solve the original problem and then use a fine space to solve a corresponding symmetric positive definite problem. Then, we present two types of iterative two‐grid methods, one is to add the kernel of the curl ‐operator in the fine space to a coarse mesh space to solve the original problem and the other is to use an inner iterative method for dealing with the kernel of the curl ‐operator in the fine space and the coarse space, separately. We provide the error estimates for the first two methods and present numerical experiments to show the efficiency of our methods.Copyright © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

A combined scheme of the improved two-grid technique with the block-centered finite difference method is constructed and analyzed to solve the nonlinear time-fractional parabolic equation. This method is considered where the nonlinear problem is solved only on a coarse grid of size $H$ and two linear problems based on the coarse-grid solutions and one Newton iteration is considered on a fine grid of size $h$. We provide the rigorous error estimate, which demonstrates that our scheme converges with order $\mathcal{O}(\Delta t^{2-\alpha}+h^2+H^4)$ on non-uniform rectangular grid. This result indicates that the improved two-grid method can obtain asymptotically optimal approximation as long as the mesh sizes satisfy $h=\mathcal{O}(H^2).$ Finally, numerical tests confirm the theoretical results of the presented method.

In this paper, we present a two-grid finite element method for the Allen-Cahn equation with the logarithmic potential. This method consists of two steps. In the first step, based on a fully implicit finite element method, the Allen-Cahn equation is solved on a coarse grid with mesh size H. In the second step, a linearized system whose nonlinear term is replaced by the value of the first step is solved on a fine grid with mesh size h. We give the energy stabilities of the traditional finite element method and the two-grid finite element method. The optimal convergence order of the two-grid finite element method in H1 norm is achieved when the mesh sizes satisfy h = O(H2). Numerical examples are given to demonstrate the validity of the proposed scheme. The results show that the two-grid method can save the CPU time while keeping the same convergence rate.  相似文献

In this article, we develop a two‐grid algorithm for nonlinear reaction diffusion equation (with nonlinear compressibility coefficient) discretized by expanded mixed finite element method. The key point is to use two‐grid scheme to linearize the nonlinear term in the equations. The main procedure of the algorithm is solving a small‐scaled nonlinear equations on the coarse grid and dealing with a linearized system on the fine space using the Newton iteration with the coarse grid solution. Error estimation to the expanded mixed finite element solution is analyzed in detail. We also show that two‐grid solution achieves the same accuracy as long as the mesh sizes satisfy H = O(h1/2). Two numerical experiments are given to verify the effectiveness of the algorithm. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq, 2013  相似文献

This article presents a local and parallel finite element method for the stationary incompressible magnetohydrodynamics problem. The key idea of this algorithm comes from the two‐grid discretization technique. Specifically, we solve the nonlinear system on a global coarse mesh, and then solve a series of linear problems on several subdomains in parallel. Furthermore, local a priori estimates are obtained on a general shape regular grid. The efficiency of the algorithm is also illustrated by some numerical experiments.© 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Summary. In this paper we introduce a class of robust multilevel interface solvers for two-dimensional finite element discrete elliptic problems with highly varying coefficients corresponding to geometric decompositions by a tensor product of strongly non-uniform meshes. The global iterations convergence rate is shown to be of the order with respect to the number of degrees of freedom on the single subdomain boundaries, uniformly upon the coarse and fine mesh sizes, jumps in the coefficients and aspect ratios of substructures. As the first approach, we adapt the frequency filtering techniques [28] to construct robust smoothers on the highly non-uniform coarse grid. As an alternative, a multilevel averaging procedure for successive coarse grid correction is proposed and analyzed. The resultant multilevel coarse grid preconditioner is shown to have (in a two level case) the condition number independent of the coarse mesh grading and jumps in the coefficients related to the coarsest refinement level. The proposed technique exhibited high serial and parallel performance in the skin diffusion processes modelling [20] where the high dimensional coarse mesh problem inherits a strong geometrical and coefficients anisotropy. The approach may be also applied to magnetostatics problems as well as in some composite materials simulation. Received December 27, 1994  相似文献

We consider the Boussinesq model of buoyancy driven fluid flows. This nonlinear system is solved numerically using a two level finite element method. On the first level, a nonlinear system is solved on a very coarse mesh. Thereafter, a linear system is solved on a fine mesh.

In a standard approach, one might obtain the numerical solution from a discretization of the original, nonlinear system using the same fine mesh.

Both solutions are of equal order of accuracy if the mesh widths are properly balanced. Therefore the two level method is very efficient.  相似文献

In this paper, the full discrete scheme of mixed finite element approximation is introduced for semilinear hyperbolic equations. To solve the nonlinear problem efficiently, two two‐grid algorithms are developed and analyzed. In this approach, the nonlinear system is solved on a coarse mesh with width H, and the linear system is solved on a fine mesh with width hH. Error estimates and convergence results of two‐grid method are derived in detail. It is shown that if we choose in the first algorithm and in the second algorithm, the two‐grid algorithms can achieve the same accuracy of the mixed finite element solutions. Finally, the numerical examples also show that the two‐grid method is much more efficient than solving the nonlinear mixed finite element system directly.  相似文献

In this article, two-grid methods are studied for solving nonlinear Sobolev equation using the finite volume element method. The methods are based on one coarse grid space and one fine grid space. The nonsymmetric and nonlinear iterations are only executed on the coarse grid (with grid size H), and the fine grid solution (with grid size h) can be obtained in a single symmetric and linear step. The optimal H1 error estimates are presented for the proposed methods, which show that the two-grid methods achieve optimal approximation as long as the mesh sizes satisfy h = 𝒪(H3|ln H|). As a result, solving such a large class of nonlinear Sobolev equations will not be much more difficult than solving one linearized equation.  相似文献

Two-grid finite volume element methods, based on two linear conforming finite element spaces on one coarse grid and one fine grid, are presented and studied for two-dimensional semilinear parabolic problems. With the proposed techniques, solving the nonsymmetric and nonlinear system on the fine space is reduced to solving a symmetric and linear system on the fine space and solving the nonsymmetric and nonlinear system on a much smaller space. Convergence estimates are derived to justify the efficiency of the proposed two-grid algorithms. It is proved that the coarse grid can be much coarser than the fine grid. As a result, solving such a large class of semilinear parabolic problems will not be much more difficult than solving one single linearized equation. In the end a numerical example is presented to validate the usefulness and efficiency of the method.  相似文献

A two‐grid variational multiscale method based on two local Gauss integrations for solving the stationary natural convection problem is presented in this article. A significant feature of the method is that we solve the natural convection problem on a coarse mesh using finite element variational multiscale method based on two local Gauss integrations firstly, and then find a fine grid solution by solving a linearized problem on a fine grid. In the computation, we introduce two local Gauss integrations as a stabilizing term to replace the projection operator without adding other variables. The stability estimates and convergence analysis of the new method are derived. Ample numerical experiments are performed to validate the theoretical predictions and demonstrate the efficiency of the new method. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献
