Summary: Poly(propylene)/monoalkylimidazolium‐modified montmorillonite (PP/IMMT) nanocomposites were prepared by in situ intercalative polymerization of propylene with TiCl4/MgCl2/MMT catalyst. The PP synthesized possessed high isotacticity and molecular weight. Both wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) examinations evidenced the nanocomposite formation with exfoliated MMT homogeneously distributed in the PP matrix. A thermal stability study revealed that the nanocomposites possess good thermal stability.

Highly exfoliated poly(propylene) (PP)/clay nanocomposites with obvious improvements in both the tensile strength and toughness have been prepared by a novel TiCl4/MgCl2/imidazolium‐modified montmorillonite (IOHMMT) compound catalysts. Through this approach, in situ propylene polymerization can actually take place between the silicate layers and lead not only to PP with a high isotacticity and molecular weight, but also to a highly exfoliated structure even at high clay content levels (as high as 19 wt.‐%).

Summary: Copolymerization of propylene and 1,4‐divinylbenzene was successfully performed by a MgCl2‐supported TiCl4 catalyst, yielding isotactic poly(propylene) (i‐PP) polymers containing a few pendant styrene groups. With a metalation reaction with butyllithium and a hydrochlorination reaction with dry hydrogen chloride, the pendant styrene groups were quantitatively transformed into benzyllithium and 1‐chloroethylbenzene groups, respectively, which allowed the synthesis of i‐PP‐based graft copolymers by living anionic and atom transfer radical (ATRP) polymerization mechanisms.

The incorporation of styrene pendant groups into isotactic poly(propylene) using a Zeigler–Natta catalyst gave functionalized polymers able to undergo living anionic and atom transfer radical (ATRP) polymerizations.  相似文献

This article discusses a facile and inexpensive reaction process for preparing polypropylene‐based graft copolymers containing an isotactic polypropylene (i‐PP) main chain and several functional polymer side chains. The chemistry involves an i‐PP polymer precursor containing several pendant vinylbenzene groups, which is prepared through the Ziegler–Natta copolymerization of propylene and 1,4‐divinylbenzene mediated by an isospecific MgCl2‐supported TiCl4 catalyst. The selective monoenchainment of 1,4‐divinylbenzene comonomers results in pendant vinylbenzene groups quantitatively transformed into benzyl halides by hydrochlorination. In the presence of CuCl/pentamethyldiethylenetriamine, the in situ formed, multifunctional, polymeric atom transfer radical polymerization initiators carry out graft‐from polymerization through controlled radical polymerization. Some i‐PP‐based graft copolymers, including poly(propylene‐g‐methyl methacrylate) and poly(propylene‐g‐styrene), have been prepared with controlled compositions. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Several novel poly(propylene)‐graft‐poly(ethylene‐co‐propylene) copolymers with isotactic poly(propylene) (PP) backbones and ethylene/propylene rubber (EPR) branches were synthesized. The thermomechanical properties of these samples were investigated using a dynamic mechanical analyzer. There appeared to be a critical EPR molecular weight above which a two‐phase system developed with EPR domains dispersed in a PP matrix. This domain formation gave an enhanced loss modulus compared to a commercial high impact PP product below 40°C.  相似文献

A meostructured WO3/C composite with crystalline framework and high electric conductivity has been synthesized by a new in situ carbonization–replication route using the block copolymer (poly(ethylene glycol)‐block‐poly(propylene glycol)‐block‐poly(ethylene glycol)) present in situ in the pore channels of mesoporous silica template as carbon source. X‐ray diffraction, X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, thermogravimetry differential thermal analysis, and N2 adsorption techniques were adopted for the structural characterization. Cyclic voltammetry, chronoamperometry, and single‐cell test for hydrogen electrochemical oxidation were adopted to characterize the electrochemical activities of the mesoporous WO3/C composite. The carbon content and consequent electric conductivity of these high‐surface‐area (108–130 m2 g?1) mesostructured WO3/C composite materials can be tuned by variation of the duration of heat treatment, and the composites exhibited high and stable electrochemical catalytic activity. The single‐cell test results indicated that the mesostructured WO3/C composites showed clear electrochemical catalytic activity toward hydrogen oxidation at 25 °C, which makes them potential non‐precious‐metal anode catalysts in proton exchange membrane fuel cell.  相似文献

Three kinds of MgCl2‐supported trivalent titanocene catalyst (Cat. 1: Cp2TiCl2AlCl2/MgCl2, Cat. 2: CpCp*TiCl/MgCl2, Cat. 3: Cp2TiCl/MgCl2) were prepared and tested for propylene polymerization. It was found that Cat. 1, combined with ordinary alkylaluminum as cocatalyst, produced PP containing 31.8 wt % of isotactic PP in fairly good yield. On the other hand, Cats. 2 and 3 hardly showed any activity. The effects of diisopropyldimethoxysilane (DIPDMS) on isospecificity of the Cat. 1 also were investigated. The isotactic index (I.I.) of PP was improved drastically by the addition of DIPDMS as external donor and reached the value as high as 98.4%, even in the absence of any internal donors. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Polypropylenimine dendrimer (DAB‐Am‐32, generation 4.0) was converted into a macroinitiator DAB‐Am‐32‐Cl via reaction with 2‐chloropropionyl chloride. Monodisperse nanoparticles containing poly(propylene imine)(NH2)32‐polystyrene were prepared by emulsion atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of styrene (St), using the DAB‐Am‐32‐Cl/CuCl/bpy as initiating system. The structure of macroinitiator was characterized by FTIR spectrum, 1H NMR, and 13C NMR. The structure of poly(propylene imine)(NH2)32‐polystyrene was characterized by FT‐IR spectrum and 1H NMR; the molecular weight and molecular weight distribution of poly(propylene imine)(NH2)32‐polystyrene were characterized by gel permeation chromatograph (GPC). The morphology, size and size distribution of the nanoparticles were characterized by photon correlation spectroscopy (PCS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The effects of monomer/macroinitiator ratio and surfactant concentration on the size and size distribution of the nanoparticles were investigated. It was found that the diameters of the nanoparticles were smaller than 100 nm (30–80 nm) and monodisperse; moreover, the particle size could be controlled by monomer/macroinitiator ratios and surfactant concentration. With the increasing of the ratio of St/DAB‐Am‐32‐Cl, the number‐average diameter (Dn), weight‐average diameter (Dw) were both increased gradually. With enhancing the surfactant concentration, the measured Dh of the nanoparticles decreased, while the polydispersity increased. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of poly(propylene) silica‐grafted‐hyperbranched polyester nanocomposites by grafting the modified hyperbranched polyester (Boltorn? H20), possessing theoretically 50% end carboxylic groups and 50% end hydroxyl groups, which endcapped with octadecyl isocyanate (C19), onto the surface of SiO2 particles (30 nm) through 3‐glycidoxy‐propyltrimethoxysilane (GPTS) was prepared. The effect of silica‐grafted‐modified Boltorn? H20 on the mechanical properties of polypropylene (PP) was investigated by tensile and impact tests. The morphological structure of impact fracture surface and thermal behavior of the composites were determined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), respectively. The melt viscosity of composites was investigated by melt flow index (MFI). The obtained results showed that: (1) the modified Boltorn? H20 was successfully grafted onto the SiO2 surface confirmed by FT‐IR and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis; (2) the incorporation of silica‐grafted‐modified Boltorn? H20 (3–5 wt% SiO2) greatly enhanced the notched impact strength as well the tensile strength of the composites; (3) the incorporation of silica‐grafted‐modified Boltorn? H20 had no influence on the melting temperature and crystallinity of PP phase; (4) the MFI of PP composites increased when the silica‐grafted‐modified Boltorn? H20 particles were added compared with PP/SiO2 or PP/SiO2‐GPTS composites. Copyright © 2004 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The stopped‐flow polymerization of propylene was carried out using an internal donor‐free MgCl2‐supported Ziegler catalyst in the absence or presence of external electron donors. The variation in the isospecific active sites was investigated based on the isotacticity distribution of the poly(propylene) analyzed by the TREF method. Highly isospecific active sites derived from the highest isotactic fraction (elution temperature by TREF: >112 °C) exist in the electron donor‐free catalyst system. The addition of external electron donors converted parts of the aspecific into isospecific active sites, but showed no effects on the highest isospecific active sites. The external electron donor sterically affects a coordination vacancy of each aspecific titanium species and, consequently, transfers it into an isospecific active site of high, but not highest isospecificity.  相似文献

Diphenyl (4-hydroxyphenyl) hexadecyl phosphonium bromide (POH) -modified montmorillonite (POHMMT) was used to prepare a novel TiCl4/MgCl2/POHMMT compound catalyst and exfoliated iPP/POHMMT nanocomposites were prepared by the in situ intercalative polymerization of propylene with the TiCl4/MgCl2/POHMMT compound catalyst. The POH surfactants don’t change the catalytic characteristic of the Z-N catalyst and the obtained PP presents high isotacticity, normal molecular weight and molecular weight distribution. The WAXD, SAXS and TEM results demonstrate the highly exfoliated iPP/POHMMT nanocomposites were produced by the in situ polymerization with this novel catalyst, while the intercalated iPP/Na+MMT nanocomposites were produced with the TiCl4/MgCl2/Na+MMT compound catalyst. Through this approach, in situ propylene polymerization can actually take place between the silicate layers and lead not only to PP with high isotacticity and molecular weight, but also to highly exfoliated PP nanocomposites.  相似文献

A–B–A block copolymers which consist of poly(norbornene‐co‐1‐octene) and atactic polypropylene (PP) segments were synthesized by using ansa‐fluorenylamidotitanium complex as a catalyst varying the ratio of norbornene, 1‐octene, and propylene. The copolymer was obtained quantitatively with high molecular weight (>100,000) and narrow molecular weight distribution (polydispersity index, <1.5). A–B block copolymers of poly(norbornene‐co‐1‐octene) and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) was also obtained by the same procedure. Mechanical and optical properties of these copolymer films, which were obtained by solution casting process, were also investigated. Introduction of PP soft segment greatly improved mechanical properties, keeping their high transparency. Introduction of PMMA block also increased the tensile strength. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A high‐yield, reliable, and reproducible method has been successfully developed to fabricate poly(oxyphenylene)‐coated carbon fiber ultramicroelectrodes (POCF UMEs) with tip radii r<2 μm. During the insulation process, the tip of the electrochemically etched electrode is protected by inserting it into an inert polymer while the remainder of the electrode is insulated by electrochemical deposition of a 1–3 μm thick poly(oxyphenylene) film. Optimum conditions for poly(oxyphenylene) deposition are developed and the resulting carbon fiber UMEs showed good cyclic voltammetric behavior even after storage for more than one year. These UMEs were tested for use as amperometric scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM) tips and successfully imaged Au/Kel‐F and Al/SiCp metal matrix composites.  相似文献

Active center determinations on different Ziegler–Natta polypropylene catalysts, comprising MgCl2, TiCl4, and either a diether or a phthalate ester as internal donor, have been carried out by quenching propylene polymerization with tritiated ethanol, followed by radiochemical analysis of the resulting polymers. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors contributing to the high activities of the catalyst system MgCl2/TiCl4/diether—AlEt3. Active center contents (C*) in the range 2–8% (of total Ti present) were measured and a strong correlation between catalyst activity and active center content was found, indicating that the high activity of the diether‐containing catalysts is due to an increased proportion of active centers rather than to a difference in propagation rate coefficients. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. High molecular weight polymers such as poly (α‐olefin)s play a key role as drag‐reducing agents which are commonly used in pipeline industry. Heterogeneous Ziegler–Natta catalyst system of MgCl2.nEtOH/TiCl4/donor was prepared using a spherical MgCl2 support and utilized in synthesis of poly(1‐hexene)s with a viscosity average molecular weight (Mv) up to 3.5 × 103 kDa. The influence of effective parameters including Al/Ti ratio, polymerization temperature, monomer concentration, effect of alkylaluminus type on the productivity, and molecular weight of the products was evaluated. It was suggested that the reactivity of the Al‐R group and the bulkiness of the cocatalyst were correlated to the performance of the Ziegler–Natta catalyst at different polymerization time and temperatures, affecting the catalyst activity and Mv of polymers. Moreover, bulk polymerization method leads to higher viscosity average molecular weights, revealing the remarkable effect of polymerization method on the chain microstructure. Fourier transform infrared, 13C Nuclear magnetic resonance spectra, and DSC thermogram of the prepared polymers confirmed the formation of poly(1‐hexene). The properties of the polymers measured by vortex test showed that these polymers could be used as a drag‐reducing agent. Drag‐reducing behaviors of the polymers exhibited a dependence on the Mv of the obtained polymers that was changed by variation in polymerization parameters. Polyolefins represented by polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) are indispensable materials in our daily lives. TiCl3 catalysts, established by Ziegler and Natta in the 1950s, led to the births of the polyolefin industries. However, the activities and stereospecificities of the TiCl3 catalysts were so low that steps for removing catalyst residues and low stereoregular PP were needed in the production of PE and PP. Our discovery of MgCl2‐supported TiCl4 catalysts led to more than 100 times higher activities and extremely high stereospecificities, which enabled us to dispense with the steps for the removals, meaning the process innovation. Furthermore, they narrowed the molecular weight and composition distributions of PE and PP, enabling us to control the polymer structures precisely and create such new products as very low density PE or heat‐sealable film at low temperature. The typical example of the product innovations by the combination of the high stereospecificity and the narrowed composition distribution is high‐performance impact copolymer used for an automobile bumper that used to be made of metal. These process and product innovations established these polyolefin industries. The latest MgCl2‐supported TiCl4 catalyst is very close to perfect control of isotactic PP structure and is expected to bring about further innovations. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The effects of polymerization temperature, polymerization time, ethylene and hydrogen concentration, and effect of comonomers (hexene‐1, propylene) on the activity of supported catalyst of composition LFeCl2/MgCl2‐Al(i‐Bu)3 (L = 2,6‐bis[1‐(2,6‐dimethylphenylimino)ethyl] pyridyl) and polymer characteristics (molecular weight (MW), molecular‐weight distribution (MWD), molecular structure) have been studied. Effective activation energy of ethylene polymerization over LFeCl2/MgCl2‐Al(i‐Bu)3 has a value typical of supported Ziegler–Natta catalysts (11.9 kcal/mol). The polymerization reaction is of the first order with respect to monomer at the ethylene concentration >0.2 mol/L. Addition of small amounts of hydrogen (9–17%) significantly increases the activity; however, further increase in hydrogen concentration decreases the activity. The IRS and DSC analysis of PE indicates that catalyst LFeCl2/MgCl2‐Al(i‐Bu)3 has a very low copolymerizing ability toward propylene and hexene‐1. MW and MWD of PE produced over these catalysts depend on the polymerization time, ethylene and hexene‐1 concentration. The activation effect of hydrogen and other kinetic features of ethylene polymerization over supported catalysts based on the Fe (II) complexes are discussed. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel catalyst precursor, (η5‐pentamethylcyclopentadienyl)titanium triallyloxide (Cp*Ti(OCH2—CH=CH2)3), was prepared and employed in a study of propylene polymerization in the presence of methylaluminoxane (MAO). This work has revealed that the half‐titanocene catalyst is desirable for the production of elastomeric poly(propylene) with high molecular weight (Mw = 8–69×104) as well as in good yields under typical polymerization conditions.  相似文献

Polypropylene(PP)/polybutene-1(PB) alloys within reactor were prepared by MgCl2-supported Ziegler-Natta catalyst with sequential two-stage polymerization technology.First, propylene homo-polymerizations were carried out to form isotactic polypropylene(iPP) particles containing active catalyst.Then,butene-1 was subsequently polymerized to form polybutene-1 phase inside the iPP particles.Finally,iPP/PB alloys with spherical shape and adjustable PB content were synthesized. The catalytic activity and catalytic stereospecificity of the Z-N catalyst in the two-stage polymerization process are discussed. The composition and physical properties of the PP alloys were characterized by FT-IR,13C-NMR,SEM,DSC and XRD.It was found that the in-reactor PP alloys are mainly composed of PP and PB with a little amount of poly(butene-co -propylene) random copolymers and poly(butene-block-propylene) block copolymers.SEM measurements verified that the PB phases with size in the range of 300-400 nm dispersed in the PP matrix uniformly. The incorporation of PB upon the PP matrix affects the properties of final products greatly.  相似文献

Surface reactions constitute the foundation of various energy conversion/storage technologies, such as the lithium–sulfur (Li‐S) batteries. To expedite surface reactions for high‐rate battery applications demands in‐depth understanding of reaction kinetics and rational catalyst design. Now an in situ extrinsic‐metal etching strategy is used to activate an inert monometal nitride of hexagonal Ni3N through iron‐incorporated cubic Ni3FeN. In situ etched Ni3FeN regulates polysulfide‐involving surface reactions at high rates. Electron microscopy was used to unveil the mechanism of in situ catalyst transformation. The Li‐S batteries modified with Ni3FeN exhibited superb rate capability, remarkable cycling stability at a high sulfur loading of 4.8 mg cm?2, and lean‐electrolyte operability. This work opens up the exploration of multimetallic alloys and compounds as kinetic regulators for high‐rate Li‐S batteries and also elucidates catalytic surface reactions and the role of defect chemistry.  相似文献
