The room-temperature adsorption and thermal evolution of iso-, cis- and trans-dichloroethylene (DCE) on Si(1 1 1)7 × 7 have been studied by vibrational electron energy loss spectroscopy and thermal desorption spectrometry (TDS). The presence of the Si-Cl stretch at 510 cm−1 suggests that, upon adsorption, all three isomers dissociate via C-Cl bond breakage on the 7 × 7 surface to form mono-σ bonded chlorovinyl , which could, in the case of iso-DCE, further dechlorinate to vinylidene (:CCH2) upon insertion into the back-bond. The higher saturation exposure for the Si-Cl stretch at 510 cm−1 observed for cis- and trans-DCE than iso-DCE suggests that Cl dissociation via the CHCl group in the cis and trans isomers is less readily than the CCl2 group in iso-DCE. Our TDS data show remarkable similarities in both molecular desorption near 360 K and thermal evolution of the respective adstructures for all three isomers on Si(1 1 1)7 × 7. In particular, upon annealing to 450 K, the mono-σ bonded chlorovinyl adspecies is found to further dechlorinate to either vinylene di-σ bonded to the Si surface or acetylene to be released from the surface. Above 580 K, vinylene could also become gaseous acetylene or undergo H abstraction to produce hydrocarbon or SiC fragments. All three DCE isomers also exhibit TDS features attributable to an etching product SiCl2 at 800-950 K and recombinative desorption products HCl at 700-900 K and H2 at 650-820 K. The stronger Cl-derived TDS signals and Si-Cl stretch at 510 cm−1 over 450-820 K for trans-DCE than those for cis-DCE indicate stronger dechlorination for trans-DCE than cis-DCE, which could be due to less steric hindrance resulting from the formation of the chlorovinyl adspecies for trans-DCE during the initial adsorption/dechlorination process. Finally, our density functional calculations qualitatively support the thermodynamic feasibility and relative stabilities of the proposed adstructures involving chlorovinyl, vinylidene, and vinylene adspecies.  相似文献

The room temperature (RT) adsorption and thermal evolution of cis- and trans-dichloroethylene (DCE) and their structural isomer, iso-DCE, on Ni(1 0 0) have been studied by vibrational electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS), Auger electron spectroscopy (AES) and thermal desorption spectrometry (TDS). For RT adsorption, both cis- and trans-DCE exhibit very similar EELS features that are different from those found for iso-DCE. These differences indicate the formation of different fragments upon RT adsorption. In particular, the primary adspecies for cis- and trans-DCE are ethane-1,1,2,2-tetrayl () and acetylide-like () adspecies along with a small amount of chlorovinyl adspecies, while ethylylidyne () is the more plausible adspecies for iso-DCE. The differences in the adstructures upon dissociative adsorption at RT underline the important isomeric effects. Furthermore, both AES and TDS results for all three DCE isomers show that most of the Cl atoms produced by dechlorination remain on the surface and its surface concentration remains unchanged upon annealing the samples above 500 K. Upon further annealing to 550 K, the EELS spectra of all three isomers exhibit a broad feature near 1600 cm−1, which suggests the formation of carbon clusters on the surface. The presence of surface Cl atoms therefore appears to prevent the CC bond cleavage during thermal evolution of the adspecies on Ni(1 0 0).  相似文献

Presented are thermal desorption spectroscopy (TDS) and adsorption probability measurements of iso-butane on the Zn-terminated surface of ZnO. The initial adsorption probability, S0, decreases linearly from 0.57 to 0.22 (±0.02) with impact energy, Ei = 0.74-1.92 eV, and is independent of adsorption temperature, Ts = 91-114 K (±5 K), indicating non-activated molecular adsorption. The coverage, Θ, dependent adsorption probabilities, S(Θ), show a cross-over from adsorbate-assisted adsorption (S increases with Θ) to Kisliuk-like dynamics at about the desorption temperature of iso-butane bi-layers (∼110 K). Thus, the adsorption dynamics are precursor-mediated. The enhanced (gas-surface) mass-match, caused by forming a second layer of the alkane, leads to adsorbate-assisted adsorption. A direct fitting procedure of the TDS data yields a pre-exponential factor of 2.5 × 1013/s and a coverage dependent heat of adsorption of Ed(Θ) = 39 − 6 ∗ Θ + 2.5 ∗ exp(−Θ/0.07) kJ/mol.  相似文献

The room temperature (RT) adsorption of 1,2-difluorobenzene (1,2-DFB), 1,2-dichlorobenzene (1,2-DCB) and 1,2-dibromobenzene (1,2-DBB) on Si(1 0 0)2 × 1 have been investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and temperature programmed desorption (TPD). Both XPS and TPD data show that the relative degree of dissociative to associative adsorption of the dihalogenated benzene (DXB) appears to increase with decreasing electronegativity of the halogen atom (X). In particular, the C 1s intensity ratios for the C-H and C-Si components to the C-X component are found to be 2, 3 and 9.6 for 1,2-DFB, 1,2-DCB and 1,2-DBB, respectively. These results indicate that 1,2-DFB, like benzene, exclusively adsorbs molecularly as a difluorocyclohexadiene adspecies on Si(1 0 0)2 × 1 while 1,2-DBB adsorbs predominantly with double debromination to form 1,2-phenylene. The majority of 1,2-DCB (75%) is found to adsorb molecularly, with the rest (25%) undergone single or double dechlorination to form chlorophenyl and phenylene, respectively. All three DXB molecules appear to have similar coverage as benzene. The two molecular desorption features for 1,2-DFB and 1,2-DCE are observed with desorption maxima at 460 K and 540 K similar to those found for benzene, which suggests that the dihalocyclohexadiene adstructures involve similar bonding through the benzene ring. In accord with the XPS data, no molecular desorption feature is observed for 1,2-DBB on the 2 × 1 surface. Further decomposition of the resulting phenylene adstructures is evident from the desorption fragment, C2H2, found at 610 K and 740 K. Recombinative desorption of HCl and HBr above 880 K are also found for 1,2-DCB and 1,2-DBB, respectively. The observed differences between associative and dissociative adsorption for the three DXB adsorbates could be attributed not only to the large difference in the C-X bond strength but also to the relative contributions from inductively withdrawing and resonantly donating electrons exerted by the halogen (X) atoms to the benzene ring.  相似文献

The interaction of 1,3-butadiene, 1-butene and 2-cis/trans-butenes on the Pt(1 1 1) and Pd(1 1 1) surfaces has been studied with density functional theory methods (DFT). The same most stable adsorption modes have been found on both metal surfaces with similar adsorption energies. For 1,3-butadiene the 1,2,3,4-tetra-σ adsorption structure is shown to be the most stable one, in competition with a 1,4-metallacycle-type mode, which is only less stable by 10-12 kJ mol−1. On Pt(1 1 1) these total energy calculations were combined with simulations of the vibrational spectra. This confirms that the 1,2,3,4-tetra-σ adsorption is the most probable adsorption structure, but cannot exclude the 1,4-metallacycle as a minority species. Although similar in type and energy, the adsorption on the Pd(1 1 1) surface shows a markedly different geometry, with a smaller molecular distortion upon adsorption. The most stable adsorption structure for the butene isomers is the di-σ-mode. Similarly to the case of the 1,3-butadiene, the adsorption geometry is closer to the gas phase one on Pd than on Pt, hence explaining the different spectroscopic results, without the previously assumed requirement of a different binding mode. Moreover the present study has shown that the different selectivity observed on Pt(1 1 1) and Pd(1 1 1) for the hydrogenation reaction of butadiene cannot be satisfactory explained by the single comparison of the relative stabilities of 1,3-butadiene and 1-butene on these metals.  相似文献

Stilbene (1,2-diphenylethylene) has shown an intriguing isomerisation behavior and may serve as a model system for “molecular switches” incorporating a CC double bond. To evaluate the possible use of such molecules as molecular switches on semiconductor surfaces, the adsorption of cis- and trans-stilbene on Si(1 0 0) has been investigated. Identification of both isomers is achieved by differences in adsorption geometry as revealed by NEXAFS, and differences in electronic structure in the occupied and unoccupied molecular orbitals. For both isomers, bonding takes place via the CC double bond to the Si dimer atoms allowing for free movement of the aromatic rings, a necessary prerequisite for photoinduced isomerisation on the surface. Our experimental results agree well with theoretical calculations.  相似文献

The adsorption-desorption behavior of Si adatoms on GaAs(1 1 1)A-(2 × 2) surfaces is investigated using our ab initio-based approach, in which adsorption and desorption behavior of Si adatoms is described by comparing the calculated desorption energy obtained by total-energy electronic-structure calculations with the chemical potential estimated by quantum statistical mechanics. We find that the Si adsorption at the Ga-vacancy site on the (2 × 2) surfaces with As adatoms occurs less than 1140-1590 K while the adsorption without As adatom does less than 630-900 K. The change in adsorption temperature of Si adatoms by As adatoms is due to self-surfactant effects of As adatoms: the promotion of the Si adsorption triggered by As adatoms is found to be interpreted in terms of the band-energy stabilization. Furthermore, the stable temperature range for Si adsorbed surfaces with As adatoms agrees with the experimental results. The obtained results provide a firm theoretical framework to clarify n-type doping processes during GaAs epitaxial growth.  相似文献

Chemisorption of 1,1-dichloroethene (Cl2CCH2) to a Si(1 1 1)-7 × 7 surface was studied by means of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy using synchrotron radiation, recording chlorine 2p and carbon 1s spectra. For carbon 1s, spectral assignment of the chemisorbed species is based on quantum chemical calculations of chemical shifts in model compounds.The results confirm the identity of covalently bonded 1-chlorovinyl (-CClCH2) and vinylidene (CCH2) adspecies. Upon chemisorption at room temperature it was found that about one-third of the molecules break one C-Cl bond while about two-thirds of the adsorbates break two C-Cl bonds. We do not, however, find evidence for isomerization of CCH2 to di-bonded vinylene (-CHCH-).  相似文献

We attempt to correlate qualitatively the surface structure with the chemical activity for a metal surface, Cr(1 1 0), and one of its surface oxides, Cr2O3(0 0 0 1)/Cr(1 1 0). The kinetics and dynamics of CO2 adsorption have been studied by low energy electron diffraction (LEED), Aug er electron spectroscopy (AES), and thermal desorption spectroscopy (TDS), as well as adsorption probability measurements conducted for impact energies of Ei = 0.1-1.1 eV and adsorption temperatures of Ts = 92-135 K. The Cr(1 1 0) surface is characterized by a square shaped LEED pattern, contamination free Cr AES, and a single dominant TDS peak (binding energy Ed = 33.3 kJ/mol, first order pre-exponential 1 × 1013 s−1). The oxide exhibits a hexagonal shaped LEED pattern, Cr AES with an additional O-line, and two TDS peaks (Ed = 39.5 and 30.5 kJ/mol). The initial adsorption probability, S0, is independent of Ts for both systems and decreases exponentially from 0.69 to 0.22 for Cr(1 1 0) with increasing Ei, with S0 smaller by ∼0.15 for the surface oxide. The coverage dependence of the adsorption probability, S(Θ), at low Ei is approx. independent of coverage (Kisliuk-shape) and increases initially at large Ei with coverage (adsorbate-assisted adsorption). CO2 physisorbs on both systems and the adsorption is non-activated and precursor mediated. Monte Carlo simulations (MCS) have been used to parameterize the beam scattering data. The coverage dependence of Ed has been obtained by means of a Redhead analysis of the TDS curves.  相似文献

The adsorption processes of an Si atom on GaAs(1 1 1)A surfaces under growth conditions are investigated on the basis of first-principles surface phase diagrams, in which adsorption-desorption behavior is described by comparing the calculated adsorption energy obtained by total-energy electronic-structure calculations with vapor-phase chemical potential estimated by quantum statistical mechanics. The calculated surface phase diagram as functions of temperature and As2 pressure demonstrates that both Ga and As atoms are adsorbed on the Ga-vacancy site of GaAs(1 1 1)A-(2×2) surface under low As-pressure conditions, resulting in the formation of (2×2) surface with an As adatom. The surface phase diagrams as functions of temperature and Si pressure also reveal that an Si atom can be adsorbed on the (2×2) surface with an As adatom for temperatures less than ∼1160 K and this Si atom can occupy one of As-lattice sites after the incorporation of another As atom, leading to p-type conductivity. In contrast, the (2×2) surface with an As trimer is found to be stabilized under high As-pressure conditions. The surface phase diagram for Si incorporation clarify that an Si atom can be adsorbed at one of Ga-lattice sites of the (2×2) surface with an As trimer for temperatures less than ∼870 K. These calculated results provide one of possible explanations for the formation of p-type and n-type GaAs on GaAs(1 1 1)A surfaces under low and high As-pressure conditions, respectively.  相似文献

Surface optimised S 2p photoelectron spectra show that both surface S2− monomers and (S-S)2− dimers are present at pyrite (1 0 0) fracture surfaces. In order to determine which sulfur species are involved in Cu adsorption, fresh pyrite surfaces were exposed to Cu2+ in solution. The S 2p spectra suggest that both types of S surface species are involved in the mechanism of Cu adsorption (activation). Ab initio density functional theory was used to model Cu adsorbed onto pyrite (1 0 0) to support the interpretation of the spectroscopy. Mulliken population analysis confirms the charge distribution suggested by the core line shifts as observed in the photoelectron spectra. The ab initio calculations were consistent with a two-coordinate bond between Cu(I), a surface S monomer and a surface S dimer.  相似文献

The electronic structure of the c(2 × 2)-Si/Cu(0 1 1) surface alloy has been investigated and compared to the structures seen in the three phases of the (√3 × √3)R30°Cu2Si/Cu(1 1 1) system, using LCAO-DFT. The weighted surface energy increase between the alloyed Cu(0 1 1) and Cu(1 1 1) surfaces is 126.7 meV/Si atom. This increase in energy for the (0 1 1) system when compared to the (1 1 1) system is assigned to the transition from a hexagonal to a rectangular local bonding environment for the Si ion cores, with the hexagonal environment being energetically more favorable. The Si 3s state is shown to interact covalently with the Cu 4s and 4p states whereas the Si 3p state, and to a lesser extent the Si 3d state, forms a mixture of covalent and metallic bonds with the Cu states. The Cu 4s and 4p states are shown to be altered by approximately the same amount by both the removal of Cu ion cores and the inclusion of Si ion cores during the alloying of the Cu(0 1 1) surface. However, the Cu 3d states in the surface and second layers of the alloy are shown to be more significantly altered during the alloying process by the removal of Cu ion cores from the surface layer rather than by the addition of Si ion cores. This is compared to the behavior of the Cu 3d states in the surface and second layers of the each phase of the (√3 × √3)R30°-Cu2Si/Cu(1 1 1) alloy and consequently the loss of Cu-Cu periodicity during alloying of the Cu(0 1 1) surface is conjectured as the driving force for changes to the Cu 3d states. The accompanying changes to the Cu 4s and 4p states in both the c(2 × 2)-Si/Cu(0 1 1) and (√3 × √3)R30°-Cu2Si/Cu(1 1 1) alloys are quantified and compared. The study concludes with a brief quantitative study of changes in the bond order of the Cu-Cu bonds during alloying of both Cu(0 1 1) and Cu(1 1 1) surfaces.  相似文献

This paper investigates the adsorption sites and electronic structure of the adsorption of CO2 on the Pt(1 0 0) surface by ab initio periodic density functional theory (DFT) methods. Several parallel and vertical adsorption sites are examined in detail. The results show that the adsorption energy for the atop hollow horizontal (thh) site is 0.34 eV. However, other sites only have small binding energies and these values are very close. For an atop hollow horizontal site, the calculated elecronic interaction is contributed to not only the Pt-O atoms, but also Pt-C atoms. So the results indicate that the thh site is the most favorable and stable.  相似文献

The surface chemistry of NO and NO2 on clean and oxygen-precovered Pt(1 1 0)-(1 × 2) surfaces were investigated by means of high resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy (HREELS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and thermal desorption spectroscopy (TDS). At room temperature, NO molecularly adsorbs on Pt(1 1 0), forming linear NO(a) and bridged NO(a). Coverage-dependent repulsive interactions within NO(a) drive the reversible transformation between linear and bridged NO(a). Some NO(a) decomposes upon heating, producing both N2 and N2O. For NO adsorption on the oxygen-precovered surface, repulsive interactions exist between precovered oxygen adatoms and NO(a), resulting in more NO(a) desorbing from the surface in the form of linear NO(a). Bridged NO(a) experiences stronger repulsive interactions with precovered oxygen than linear NO(a). The desorption activation energy of bridged NO(a) from oxygen-precovered Pt(1 1 0) is lower than that from clean Pt(1 1 0), but the desorption activation energy of linear NO(a) is not affected by the precovered oxygen. NO2 decomposes on Pt(1 1 0)-(1 × 2) surface at room temperature. The resulted NO(a) (both linear NO(a) and bridged NO(a)) and O(a) repulsively interact each other. Comparing with NO/Pt(1 1 0), more NO(a) desorbs from NO2/Pt(1 1 0) as linear NO(a), and both linear NO(a) and bridged NO(a) exhibit lower desorption activation energies. The reaction pathways of NO(a) on Pt(1 1 0), desorption or decomposition, are affected by their repulsive interactions with coexisting oxygen adatoms.  相似文献

Monolayer Ga adsorption on Si surfaces has been studied with the aim of forming p-delta doped nanostructures. Ga surface phases on Si can be nitrided by N2+ ion bombardment to form GaN nanostructures with exotic electron confinement properties for novel optoelectronic devices. In this study, we report the adsorption of Ga in the submonolayer regime on 7 × 7 reconstructed Si(1 1 1) surface at room temperature, under controlled ultrahigh vacuum conditions. We use in-situ Auger electron spectroscopy, electron energy loss spectroscopy and low energy electron diffraction to monitor the growth and determine the properties. We observe that Ga grows in the Stranski-Krastanov growth mode, where islands begin to form on two flat monolayers. The variation in the dangling bond density is observed during the interface evolution by monitoring the Si (LVV) line shape. The Ga adsorbed system is subjected to thermal annealing and the residual thermal desorption studied. The difference in the adsorption kinetics and desorption dynamics on the surface morphology is explained in terms of strain relaxation routes and bonding configurations. Due to the presence of an energetic hierarchy of residence sites of adatoms, site we also plot a 2D phase diagram consisting of several surface phases. Our EELS results show that the electronic properties of the surface phases are unique to their respective structural arrangement.  相似文献

The interaction of CO with structurally well-defined PtxRuy surface alloys supported on Ru(0 0 0 1) was investigated by thermal desorption spectroscopy and infrared reflection-absorption spectroscopy. The surface composition and the distribution of the surface atoms were controlled by high resolution scanning tunneling microscopy. On these surfaces, which have a nearly random distribution of the two surface species, the adsorption (and desorption) of CO is strongly modified compared to the pure elemental surfaces, by strain effects and electronic ligand effects. CO adsorbs exclusively in a linear configuration on Pt and Ru atoms for all surfaces investigated. The adsorption energy of CO is lowered on the alloy surfaces with respect to both Pt(1 1 1) and Ru(0 0 0 1), similar as for pseudomorphic monolayer Pt films. For both Pt and Ru sites the adsorption strength decreases with increasing Pt concentration.  相似文献

FePt films that have a high degree of order S in their L10 structure (S>0.90) and well-defined [0 0 1] crystalline growth perpendicular to the film plane were fabricated on thermally oxidized Si substrates by the addition of an oxide and successive rapid thermal annealing (RTA). The mechanism of L10 ordering and [0 0 1] crystalline growth perpendicular to the film plane arising through the oxide addition and RTA process is also discussed. The L10 ordering (S>0.90) and the [0 0 1] crystalline growth were achieved by (1) lowering the activation energy due to in-plane tensile stress and the initiation of L10 ordering at a low temperature, (2) [0 0 1] crystalline growth through in-plane tensile stress, and (3) enhancement of atomic diffusion via the addition of an oxide and the resultant lowering of the ordering temperature. Effect (1) was observed in the case of SiO2 addition, effect (2) was generally observed in the case of oxide addition and the RTA process, and effect (3) was prominent in the case of ZnO addition. With the addition of ZnO, the L10 ordering started at below 400 °C and was completed at 500 °C. Finally, dot patterns were successfully fabricated down to a diameter of 15 nm using electron beam lithography, and the magnetic state of the dot pattern was observed by magnetic force microscopy.  相似文献

A high resolution (0.0018 cm−1) Fourier transform instrument has been used to record the spectrum of an enriched 34S (95.3%) sample of sulfur dioxide. A thorough analysis of the ν2, 2ν2 − ν2, ν1, ν1 + ν2 − ν2, ν3, ν2 + ν3 − ν2, ν1 + ν2 and ν2 + ν3 bands has been carried out leading to a large set of assigned lines. From these lines ground state combination differences were obtained and fit together with the existing microwave, millimeter, and terahertz rotational lines. An improved set of ground state rotational constants were obtained. Next, the upper state rotational levels were fit. For the (0 1 0), (1 1 0) and (0 1 1) states, a simple Watson-type Hamiltonian sufficed. However, it was necessary to include explicitly interacting terms in the Hamiltonian matrix in order to fit the rotational levels of the (0 2 0), (1 0 0) and (1 0 1) states to within their experimental accuracy. More explicitly, it was necessary to use a ΔK = 2 term to model the Fermi interaction between the (0 2 0) and (1 0 0) levels and a ΔK = 3 term to model the Coriolis interaction between the (1 0 0) and (0 0 1) levels. Precise Hamiltonian constants were derived for the (0 0 0), (0 1 0), (1 0 0), (0 0 1), (0 2 0), (1 1 0) and (0 1 1) vibrational states.  相似文献

The adsorption of acetylene on the Si(0 0 1)-c(2 × 4) surface at low and full coverage is studied by first principles density functional calculations using the generalized gradient approximation. For a single acetylene molecule, the most stable configuration corresponds to the di-σ site, on-top of a silicon dimer. This configuration is 0.36 eV more stable than the end-bridge site between two adjacent Si dimers. However, if there are two acetylene molecules, the paired end bridge configuration becomes the most stable. We have also studied the kinetics of the adsorption of a single acetylene molecule. Our calculations show that the reaction is barrier-free for adsorption in the di-σ configuration, while there is an energy barrier of 0.19 eV for adsorption in the end-bridge site. At monolayer coverage, the most stable configuration corresponds to acetylene molecules in the pair-end bridge configuration, in agreement with previous calculations. We have found a noticeable coverage dependence only for the end-bridge site, but not for the di-σ. Our results show that to have an accurate picture of the adsorption of acetylene on the Si(0 0 1) surface, a large unit cell is needed.  相似文献

The adsorption and reactions of trans-1,2-dichloroethene on Cu(1 1 0) have been investigated using reflection absorption infrared spectroscopy, temperature programmed desorption and molecular beam adsorption reaction spectroscopy. These data reveal that the behaviour of the system is critically affected by temperature and can be described in terms of three main regimes: Regime I, which occurs over 85-165 K, represents molecular adsorption in the monolayer and the multilayer where the trans-1,2-dichloroethene adsorbs with its molecular plane oriented largely parallel to the metal surface; Regime II, extending over the temperature range 170-280 K, is dominated by desorption/dechlorination events which are first initiated at 171 K, then poisoned rapidly and re-initiated at the much higher temperature of 263 K, culminating in the creation of adsorbed acetylene and Cl atoms on the surface; Regime III, spanning the temperature range of 280-500 K, is governed by the behaviour of the C2H2 molecular intermediate at the surface which, if created at low temperatures, trimerises to form benzene that subsequently desorbs. However, when created at high temperature, direct desorption of C2H2 competes effectively with the trimerisation process.  相似文献
