Most researchers established their inventory lot-size models under trade credit financing by assuming that the supplier offers the retailer fully permissible delay in payments and the products received are all non-defective. However, in the real business environment, it often can be observed that the supplier offers the retailer a fully permissible delay in payments only when the order quantity is greater than or equal to the predetermined quantity Q d . In addition, an arriving order lot usually contains some defective items due to imperfect production processes or other factors. To capture this reality, the paper extends Huang (2007) economic order quantity (EOQ) model with partially permissible delay in payments to consider defective items. We formulate the proposed problem as a profit maximization EOQ model in which the replenishment cycle time is the decision variable. Then we use the arithmetic-geometric mean inequality approach to determine the optimal solution under various situations. An algorithm to obtain the optimal solution is also provided. Finally, the numerical examples and sensitivity analysis are given to illustrate the results.  相似文献

In 2007, Huang proposed the optimal retailer’s replenishment decisions in the EPQ model under two levels of trade credit policy, in which the supplier offers the retailer a permissible delay period M, and the retailer in turn provides its customer a permissible delay period N (with N < M). In this paper, we extend his EPQ model to complement the shortcoming of his model. In addition, we relax the dispensable assumptions of N < M and others. We then establish an appropriate EPQ model to the problem, and develop the proper theoretical results to obtain the optimal solution. Finally, a numerical example is used to illustrate the proposed model and its optimal solution.  相似文献

In the business transactions, the supplier usually offers a permissible delay in payment to his retailer to attract more sales. In addition, a permissible delay in payment may be applied as an alternative to price discount. Based on the above phenomena, we incorporate a permissible delay in payment into the model of Yang [1] and develop a two-warehouse partial backlogging inventory model for deteriorating items with permissible delay in payment under inflation. The objective of this study is to derive the retailer’s optimal replenishment policy that maximizes the net present value of the profit per unit time. The necessary and sufficient conditions for an optimal solution are characterized. An algorithm is developed to find the optimal solution. Finally, numerical examples are provided to illustrate the proposed model. Sensitivity analysis is made and some managerial implications are presented.  相似文献

Within the economic order quantity (EOQ) framework, the main purpose of this paper is to investigate the retailer’s optimal replenishment policy under permissible delay in payments. All previously published articles dealing with optimal order quantity with permissible delay in payments assumed that the supplier only offers the retailer fully permissible delay in payments if the retailer ordered a sufficient quantity. Otherwise, permissible delay in payments would not be permitted. However, in this paper, we want to extend this extreme case by assuming that the supplier would offer the retailer partially permissible delay in payments when the order quantity is smaller than a predetermined quantity. Under this condition, we model the retailer’s inventory system as a cost minimization problem to determine the retailer’s optimal inventory cycle time and optimal order quantity. Three theorems are established to describe the optimal replenishment policy for the retailer. Some previously published results of other researchers can be deduced as special cases. Finally, numerical examples are given to illustrate all these theorems and to draw managerial insights.  相似文献

Many products such as fruits, vegetables, pharmaceuticals, volatile liquids, and others not only deteriorate continuously due to evaporation, obsolescence, spoilage, etc. but also have their expiration dates (i.e., a deteriorating item has its maximum lifetime). Although numerous researchers have studied economic order quantity (EOQ) models for deteriorating items, few of them have taken the maximum lifetime of a deteriorating item into consideration. In addition, a supplier frequently offers her/his retailers a permissible delay in payments in order to stimulate sales and reduce inventory. There is no interest charge to a retailer if the purchasing amount is paid to a supplier within the credit period, and vice versa. In this paper, we propose an EOQ model for a retailer when: (1) her/his product deteriorates continuously, and has a maximum lifetime, and (2) her/his supplier offers a permissible delay in payments. We then characterize the retailer’s optimal replenishment cycle time. Furthermore, we discuss a special case for non-deteriorating items. Finally, we run several numerical examples to illustrate the problem and provide some managerial insights.  相似文献

To attract more sales suppliers frequently offer a permissible delay in payments if the retailer orders more than or equal to a predetermined quantity W. In this paper, we generalize [Goyal, S.K., 1985. EOQ under conditions of permissible delay in payments. Journal of the Operational Research Society 36, 335–338] economic order quantity (EOQ) model with permissible delay in payment to reflect the following real-world situations: (1) the retailer’s selling price per unit is significantly higher than unit purchase price, (2) the interest rate charged by a bank is not necessarily higher than the retailer’s investment return rate, (3) many items such as fruits and vegetables deteriorate continuously, and (4) the supplier may offer a partial permissible delay in payments even if the order quantity is less than W. We then establish the proper mathematical model, and derive several theoretical results to determine the optimal solution under various situations and use two approaches to solve this complex inventory problem. Finally, a numerical example is given to illustrate the theoretical results.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This paper considers an imperfect manufacturing system with credit policies in fuzzy random environments. The supplier simultaneously offers the retailer either a permissible delay in payments or a cash discount and retailer in turn provides its customer a permissible delay period. We used an alternate approach – discount cash flow analysis to establish an inventory problem. It is assumed that the elapsed time until the machine shifts from ‘in-control’ state to ‘out-of-control’ state is characterized as a fuzzy random variable. As a function of this parameter, the profit function is also a random fuzzy variable. Based on the credibility measure of fuzzy event, the model with fuzzy random elapsed time can be transformed into a crisp model . We establish several theoretical results to obtain the solution that provides the largest present value of all future cash flows. Finally, numerical example is given to illustrate the results and obtain some managerial insights.  相似文献

A lot of researchers develop their inventory models under trade credit by assuming that the supplier offers the retailer fully permissible delay in payments and the products received are all non-defective. However, from the viewpoint of practice, it can often be found that the supplier offers the retailer a fully permissible delay in payments only when the order quantity is greater than or equal to the specific quantity. Furthermore, the products received usually contain some defective items. This paper establishes the EOQ model with defective items and partially permissible delay in payments linked to order quantity. It also uses the rigorous method of mathematics to derive the solution procedure to locate the optimal solution. This paper derives a production model for the lot-size inventory system with finite production rate, taking into consideration the effect of decay and the condition of permissible delay in payments, in which the restrictive assumption of a permissible delay is relaxed to that at the end of the credit period, the retailer will make a partial payment on total purchasing cost to the supplier and pay off the remaining balance by loan from the bank. At first, this paper shows that there exists a unique optimal cycle time to minimize the total variable cost per unit time. Then, a theorem is developed to determine the optimal ordering policies and bounds for the optimal cycle time are provided to develop an algorithm. Numerical examples reveal that our optimization procedure is very accurate and rapid. Finally, it is shown that the model developed by Huang [1] can be treated as a special case of this paper.  相似文献

This study investigates a deteriorating inventory problem in which the supplier simultaneously offers the retailer either a conditionally permissible delay in payments or a cash discount. In the case of a conditionally permissible delay, if the retailer orders more than a predetermined quantity, then he/she has a grace period to make the full payment. Otherwise, he/she must pay the payment for goods of certain proportion first while receiving the goods and has a grace period to pay off the rest. As to a cash discount, if the retailer pays for the entire amount of the order within a certain short period, then he/she will receive a cash discount from the supplier. In additions, from a financial standpoint, all cash outflows related to the inventory control that occur at different points of time have different values. Hence, it is necessary to take account of the factor of time value of monetary when drafting the replenishment policy. In a word, this paper uses an alternate approach-discount cash flow (DCF) analysis to establish an inventory problem for deteriorating items in which the supplier provides the retailer either a conditionally permissible delay or a cash discount. We then study the necessary and sufficient conditions for finding the optimal solution. Furthermore, we establish several theoretical results to obtain the solution that provides the smallest present value of all future cash flows. Finally, several numerical examples are given to illustrate the results and obtain some managerial insights.  相似文献

The main purpose of this note is to modify the assumption of the trade credit policy in previously published results to reflect the real-life situations. All previously published models implicitly assumed that the supplier would offer the retailer a delay period, but the retailer would not offer the trade credit period to his/her customer. In most business transactions, this assumption is debatable. In this note, we assume that the retailer also adopts the trade credit policy to stimulate his/her customer demand to develop the retailer's replenishment model. Furthermore, we assume that the retailer's trade credit period offered by supplier M is not shorter than the customer's trade credit period offered by retailer N(M?N). Under these conditions, we model the retailer's inventory system as a cost minimization problem to determine the retailer's optimal ordering policies. Then a theorem is developed to determine efficiently the optimal ordering policies for the retailer. We deduce some previously published results of other researchers as special cases. Finally, numerical examples are given to illustrate the theorem obtained in this note.  相似文献

针对易腐品的经济订货批量问题展开研究。在供应商给零售商提供延迟还款的同时,零售商也给顾客提供部分延期还款条件。分五种情况分别讨论零售商的成本构成,并由此建立数学模型以求解最优订货周期使得零售商单位时间总成本最小化。通过数学证明得到了目标函数的解析性质,结果显示每种情况下在可行域范围内至多存在一个极小值点。以此为基础给出了相应的命题以有效地确定零售商的最优决策。最后通过数值算例说明了模型的有效性。  相似文献

In the current global market, organizations use many promotional tools in order to increase their sales. One such tool is permissible delay in payments, i.e., the buyer does not have to pay for the goods purchased immediately rather can defer the payment for a prescribed period given by the supplier. This phenomenon motivates the retailer/buyer to order a large inventory lot so as to take full benefit of credit period. But the well decorated showroom (OW) with modern facilities has a limited storage capacity. Thus the retailer has to hire a rented warehouse to store the excess units. In this scenario, retailer usually adopts two types of dispatch policy: FIFO & LIFO, depending upon the situation, e.g., nature of items/deteriorating items, location of warehouse. Further in order to survive in the market, the retailer dynamically adjusts the prices of the goods to boost the demand and enhance the revenues.In the light of these facts, this paper develops an inventory model for deteriorating items with price-sensitive demand under permissible delay in payment in a two warehouse environment. Shortages are allowed and fully backlogged. The objective of this study is to find the optimal inventory and pricing policies so as to maximize the total average profit. Further, the different trade credit scenario has been exhibited with the help of a numerical example. A comprehensive sensitivity analysis has also been carried out to advocate the implication of FIFO and LIFO dispatch policy.  相似文献

Huang (2010) [1] proposed an integrated inventory model with trade credit financing in which the vendor decides its production lot size while the buyer determines its expenditure to minimize the annual integrated total cost for both the vendor and the buyer. In this paper, we extend his integrated supply chain model to reflect the following four facts: (1) generated sales revenue is deposited in an interest-bearing account for the buyer, (2) the buyer’s interest earned is not always less than or equal to its interest charged, (3) the total number of shipments in one lot size is the vendor’s decision variable to minimize the cost, and (4) it is vital to have a discrimination term which can determine whether the buyer’s replenishment cycle time is less than the permissible delay period or not. We then derive the necessary and sufficient conditions to obtain the optimal solution, and establish some theoretical results to characterize the optimal solution. Finally, numerical examples are presented to illustrate the proposed model and its optimal solution.  相似文献

In real life situation, it is observed that demand of an item depends on the length of the credit period offered by the retailer to his customers which has a positive impact on demand of an item. But the impact of credit period on demand has received a very little attention by researchers. Furthermore, by allowing shortages as backlogging, the impact on the cost from the decay of the products can be balanced out. A profitable decision policy between a supplier and the retailers can be characterized by an agreement on the permissible delay in payments. Recently, Jaggi et al. (Eur J Oper Res 190:130–135, 2008) have investigated the impact of credit linked demand on the retailer’s optimal replenishment policy. The objective of this study is to extend Jaggi et al. (Eur J Oper Res 190:130–135, 2008) model by incorporating deterioration and backlogging. That is, we formulate a two-echelon inventory model for deteriorating items with credit period dependent demand including shortages under two-level trade credit financing and determine the retailer’s optimal replenishment policy when both the supplier as well as the retailer offers the credit period to stimulate customer demand. Furthermore, we establish some useful theorems to characterize the optimal solution and provide an easy and useful computational algorithm with the help of computer code using the software Matlab 7.0 to determine the optimal shortage point, cycle length, ordering quantity and credit period. A numerical example is included to illustrate the solution procedure for the mathematical model developed. Finally, we implement sensitivity analysis of the optimal solution with respect to the major parameters of the system and obtain some important managerial insights.  相似文献

Consignment is a popular form of business arrangement where supplier retains ownership of the inventory and gets paid from the retailer based on actual units sold. The popularity of such an arrangement has come with some continued debates on who should control the supply chain inventory, the supplier or retailer. This paper aims at shedding light on these debated issues. We consider a single period supply chain model where a supplier contracts with a retailer. Market demand for the product is price-sensitive and uncertain. The supplier decides his consignment price charged to the retailer for each unit sold, and the retailer then chooses her retail price for selling the product. We study and compare two different consignment arrangements: The first allows the retailer to choose the supply chain inventory, together with her retail price, and is labeled as a Retailer Managed Consignment Inventory (RMCI) program; and the second calls for the supplier to decide the inventory, together with his consignment price, and is labeled as a Vendor Managed Consignment Inventory (VMCI) program. We show that with an RMCI program, the supply chain loses at least 26.4% of its first-best (expected) profit, while with VMCI, it loses just or no more than 26.4% of the first-best profit. Second, we demonstrate that both programs lead to an equal split of the corresponding channel profit between the supplier and the retailer. These results indicate that it is beneficial both to the supplier and to the retailer when delegating the inventory decision to the supplier rather than to the retailer in the channel.  相似文献

During the growth stage of a product life cycle especially for high-tech products, the demand function increases with time. In this paper, we extend the constant demand to a linear non-decreasing demand function of time and incorporate a permissible delay in payment under two levels of trade credit into the model. The supplier offers a permissible delay linked to order quantity, and the retailer also provides a downstream trade credit period to its customers. The objective is to find the optimal replenishment cycle that minimizes the retailer’s annual total relevant cost per unit time. The condition for an optimal solution to the generalized model is presented and some fundamental theoretical results are established. Finally, numerical examples to illustrate the proposed model are provided. Sensitivity analysis is performed and some relevant managerial insights are obtained.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

We study four-echelon supply chains consisting of manufacturer, wholesaler, retailer and customer with recovery center as hybrid recycling channels. In order to gain a larger market share, the retailer often takes the sales as a decision-making variable. For this purpose, in this supply chain, the retailer limits the forecast of market demand in future periods with expected logic. It also manages demand by leveraging prices and choosing market. In this paper, first, we investigate the state-space model of this supply chain system and examine the effect of complex dynamic and stochastic noise on the bullwhip effect. We analytically prove that this factor leads to the bullwhip effect. So, first, we filtered the information between nodes with extended Kalman filter after which we regulated the destructive effects of the bullwhip phenomenon by designing a non-linear quadratic Gaussian optimal controller. Eventually, the simulation results indicate the efficiency of the proposed method.  相似文献
