Heat capacity and resistivity of Sm0.55Sr0.45MnO3 ceramics were measured over the temperature range 80–300 K in magnetic fields of up to 26 kOe. These quantities show anomalies caused by the magnetic and structural phase transitions. The critical temperature T c and the heat capacity jump ΔC p (T c ) at T c increase with increasing applied magnetic field H, while the resistivity decreases. The temperature dependences of the measured quantities show hysteresis, which is strongly suppressed in a field of 26 kOe but is sensitive nor to the temperature range neither to the rate of temperature change. The hysteresis of the heat capacity and resistivity of Sm0.55Sr0.45MnO3 is caused by a change in T c with changing lattice parameters upon second-order structural phase transition. The results are discussed in terms of the electron phase separation model.  相似文献

In a magnetic field parallel to the magnetization axis of an antiferromagnetic Fe Br2 single crystal, a caracteristic metamagnetic behaviour is observed. The transition from an antiferromagnetic phase to a paramagnetic phase is studied by help of magnetization measurements in a steady field (H < 60 kOe). The measurement precision has allowed a detailed study of the magnetization isotherms, caracteristic of a first order magnetization phase transition (T < Tc = 4, 7 K) and of a second order phase transition (Tc < T < TN = 14, 2 K).We have observed an original phase diagram. In a certain temperature and field range, the ordered phase is stable on the high temperature side of the transition point. Some theoretical studies in an Ising model, or in the hypothesis of a strong magnetoelastic coupling forecast the existence of such a magnetic phase diagram. At present, we proceed to a theoretical study, in a molecular field approximation, of the magnetic phase diagram of compounds similar to Fe Br2 where we take into account the relative values of parameters J1, J2 and D associated with ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic interactions and crystalline anisotropy.  相似文献

The magnetic properties of TlFe3Te3 are studied on powdered samples and single crystals. Below 220 K TlFe3Te3, is a very anisotropic ferromagnet, the crystallographic c axis being the easy axis of magnetization. While in the easy direction saturation is achieved below 0.5 kOe, in the hard direction saturation is reached at 64 kOe. The angular dependence of the magnetization follows closely a cos ¦?¦ law. The magnetic transition is very abrupt at low external fields, suggesting a first order phase transition. It is accompanied by a small anomaly in the thermal dilatation of the c axis. The magnetization shows an anomalous increase below 50 K suggesting a phase transition.  相似文献

The effect of an external magnetic field with a strength up to 140 kOe on the phase transitions in manganese arsenide single crystals has been investigated. The existence of unstable magnetic and crystal structures at temperatures above the Curie temperature T C = 308 K has been established. The displacements of manganese and arsenic atoms during the magnetostructural phase transition and the shift in the temperature of the first-order magnetostructural phase transition in a magnetic field have been determined. It has been shown that the magnetocaloric effect in a magnetic field of 140 kOe near the Curie temperature T C is equal to ??T ?? 13 K. A model of the superparamagnetic state in MnAs above the temperature T C has been proposed using the data on the magnetic properties and structural transformation in the region of the first-order magnetostructural phase transition. It has been demonstrated that, at temperatures close to T C, apart from the contribution to the change in the entropy from the change in the magnetization there is a significant contribution from the transformation of the crystal lattice due to the magnetostructural phase transition.  相似文献

The results of magnetization measurements on several disordered b.c.c. Cr-Fe alloys with 1, 1.5, 2.4, 5.3, 12 and 14.2 at % of Fe are reported. The measurements were done in pulsed magnetic fields up to 330 kOe and for the two last alloys also in static magnetic fields up to 44 kOe as in function of temperature. The data support the recently proposed model of magnetic interactions in these alloys by Friedel and Hedman. For the alloys with iron concentration equal to and greater than 2.4 at % we observe, at low temperature, the occurence of a ferromagnetic component in the magnetization curves saturating at an external field of about 140 kOe arising from ferromagnetic iron-rich cluster. At liquid helium temperature the localized iron moments within such iron clusters increase from 1.4μB to 1.8μb when the iron concentration changes from 2.4 at % to 14.2 at %. At higher iron concentrations we observe a spin glass like transition connected with a freezing of ferromagnetic clusters at very low temperature. Both phase boundaries connected with supermagnetic-paramagnetic and superamagnetis-spin glass like transitions are given.  相似文献

The magnetic properties of single crystals of erbium iron garnet (ErIG) were studied in applied fields up to 150kOe between 1.4 and 300K. At low temperature, the macroscopic easy direction of the bulk magnetization is [100]; below the compensation temperature (80±2K), the magnetization presents non-linear field evolution. On the assumption of an isolated ground doublet, the anisotropy constantsK i (i=1,2) of ErIG are given byK i (Er)+K i (YIG); theK i are calculated as a function of theG andg tensor components. It is worthwhile noting that theK i (Er) are strongly temperature dependent; so at low temperature the anisotropy of the garnet is determined by the rare earth ions, while in the 50 K regionK 1(Er) becomes comparable toK 1(YIG) with the opposite sign which results in a very weak anisotropy of the garnet. Above 50 K,K 1(YIG) is predominant and the Fe3+ ions determine the garnet anisotropy.  相似文献

Metamagnetic transitions in single-crystal rare-earth nickel borocarbide HoNi2B2C have been studied at T ≈ 1.9 K with a Quantum Design torque magnetometer. With increasing field, transitions to antiferromagnetic, ferrimagnetic, non-collinear, and saturated paramagnetic states take place. The critical fields of the transitions depend crucially on the angle θ between applied field and the easy axis [110]. Measurements of torque along the c axis have been made while changing the angular direction of the magnetic field (parallel to basal tetragonal ab planes) and with changing field at fixed angle over a wide angular range. Two new phase boundaries in the region of the non-collinear phase have been observed, and the direction of the magnetization in this phase has been precisely determined. At low field the antiferromagnetic phase is observed to be multidomain. In the angular range around the hard axis (?6° ≤ ? ≤ 6°, where ? is the angle between the field and hard axis [100]) the magnetic behavior is found to be “frustrated” with a mixture of phases with different directions of the magnetization.  相似文献

The cross-breeding problem of the temperature dependence of the antiferromagnetic susceptibility of ferrihydrite nanoparticles is considered. Iron ions Fe3+ in ferrihydrite are ordered antiferromagnetically; however, the existence of defects on the surface and in the bulk of nanoparticles induces a noncompensated magnetic moment that leads to a typical superparamagnetic behavior of ensemble of the nanoparticles with a characteristic blocking temperature. In an unblocked state, magnetization curves of such objects are described as a superposition of the Langevin function and the linear-in-field contribution of the antiferromagnetic “core” of the nanoparticles. According to many studies of the magnetization curves performed on ferrihydrite (and related ferritin) nanoparticles in fields to 60 kOe, dependence χAF(T) decreases as temperature increases, which was related before to the superantiferromagnetism effect. As the magnetic field range increases to 250 kOe, the values of χAF obtained from an analysis of the magnetization curves become lower in magnitude; however, the character of the temperature evolution of χAF is changed: now, dependence χAF(T) is an increasing function. The latter is typical for a system of AF particles with random orientation of the crystallographic axes. To correctly determine the antiferromagnetic susceptibility of AF nanoparticles (at least, ferrihydrite) and to search for effects related to the superantiferromagnetism effect, it is necessary to use in experiments the range of magnetic field significantly higher than that the standard value 60 kOe used in most experiments. The study of the temperature evolution of the magnetization curves shows that the observed crossover is due to the existence of small magnetic moments in the samples.  相似文献

The magnetic properties of V5S8 single crystals have been investigated by susceptibility and torque measurements. The susceptibilities parallel and perpendicular to the magnetic easy axis show a remarkable anisotropy below the Neel temperature of 32 K and are nearly Isotropie above that temperature. The easy axis is found to be nearly along the c-axis of the monoclinic lattice, being inclined at an angle of 9.6 ± 1.0° from the c-axis toward the a-axis. The torque curves, measured up to 24.4 kOe at liquid helium temperature, deviate from the usual form of a sine function with increasing magnetic field. The analysis of these torque curves suggests that spin flopping may occur at 43 kOe, a comparatively low critical field. Using these experimental results, a localized d-electron model for a particular site of the vanadium-ion, proposed by previous investigators, is examined.  相似文献

The single crystal of the new ternary compound Sm12Fe14Al5 was grown and its crystallographic and magnetic properties were investigated. Sm12Fe14Al5 has a hexagonal structure of the space group p-3m1 and shows ferromagnetism with a Curie temperature of 245 K. The easy direction of magnetization is parallel to the c-axis at temperatures between 245 and 85 K; however, it changes to the c-plane below 85 K through a first-order-like phase transition. No saturation is observed in the magnetization curve even under the applied field of 55 kOe at 5 K. Sm12Fe14Al5 seems to have a large coercive field at very low temperatures. The anisotropy field was estimated at 5 and 120 K and the saturation magnetization of low temperature phase is explained assuming a ferromagnetic coupling between Fe and Sm sublattices.  相似文献

In the compound MnBi, a first-order transition from the paramagnetic to the ferromagnetic state can be triggered by an applied magnetic field and the Curie temperature increases nearly linearly with an increase in magnetic field by ∼2 K/T. Under a field of 10 T, TC increases by 20 and 22 K during heating and cooling, respectively. Under certain conditions a reversible magnetic field or temperature induced transition between the paramagnetic and ferromagnetic states can occur. A magnetic and crystallographic H-T phase diagram for MnBi is given. Magnetic properties of MnBi compound aligned in a Bi matrix have been investigated. In the low temperature phase MnBi, a spin-reorientation takes place during which the magnetic moments rotate from being parallel to the c-axis towards the basal plane at ∼90 K. A measuring Dc magnetic field applied parallel to the c-axis of MnBi suppresses partly the spin-reorientation transition. Interestingly, the fabricated magnetic field increases the temperature of spin-reorientation transition Ts and the change in magnetization for MnBi. For the sample solidified under 0.5 T, the change in magnetization is ∼70% and Ts is ∼91 K.  相似文献

On single crystals of holmium iron garnet (HoIG), magnetic properties have been studied in magnetic field up to 150kOe applied parallel to the main crystallographic directions in the 4.2–300K temperature range. Above 130 K, the magnetization is isotropic and linear magnetic field dependent as previously found in polycrystals and predicted by Néel's ferrimagnetic theory. Nevertheless the paramagnetic Curie temperature is much higher than the polycrystal value. Below 130K, due to the onset of the umbrella structure, the ferrite magnetization presents a non linear field variation with [111] as easy direction. The field evolutions of the anisotropy constants (K 1 andK 2) were calculated. Optical absorption measurements of both 585I 6 and 5I 85I 7 transitions are reported and compared to the results of the literature in terms of inequivalent magnetic sites.  相似文献

A measurement of the temperature and angular dependence of the upper critical magnetic field Hc2 in crystals of polymeric (SN)x is reported. A large anisotropy is observed at all temperatures with Hc26 = 8.1 ± 0.4 kOe parallel to, and Hc2 = 870 ± 80 Oe perpendicular to, the polymer axis at 0°K. The results are explained in terms of the polymeric crystal structure and fibrous morphology of (SN)x.  相似文献

Magnetic measurements have been performed on a single crystal of DyNi2 in applied fields up to 135 kOe. In the ferromagnetic range (Tc = 25 K), the easy magnetization direction is [100] and the hardest one is [111]. Crystal field parameters have been determined from the field and temperature dependence of the magnetization measured along the three principal axes. A two-dimensional model has been used to take into account the rotation of magnetization towards the field. The deduced parameters are W = -0.8 K and x = 0.49. The corresponding anisotropy is very large: especially even a field of 135 kOe applied along a difficult magnetization axis cannot rotate the magnetization along this direction.  相似文献

The magnetic superconductorRu0.9Sr2YCu2.1O7.9 (Ru-1212Y) has beeninvestigated using neutron diffraction under variable temperature and magnetic field. Withthe complementary information from magnetization measurements, we propose a magnetic phasediagram T-H for the Ru-1212 system. Uniaxialantiferromagnetic (AFM) order of 1.2μ B /Ruatoms with moments parallel to the c-axis is found below the magnetictransition temperature at  ~140 K in the absence of magnetic field. In addition, ferromagnetism (FM) in the ab-plane develops below  ~120 K, butis suppressed at lower temperature by superconducting correlations. Externally appliedmagnetic fields cause Ru-moments to realign from the c-axis to theab-plane, i.e. along the ?1,1,0? direction, and induce ferromagnetismin the plane with  ~1μ B at 60 kOe.These observations of the weak ferromagnetism suppressed by superconductivity and thefield-induced metamagnetic transition between AFM and FM demonstrate not only competingorders of superconductivity and magnetism, but also suggest a certain vortex dynamicscontributing to these magnetic transitions.  相似文献

Ultrasonic sound velocity measurements have been carried out in order to determine the elastic moduli, adiabatic compressibility and the Debye temperature of polycrystalline rare earth-cobalt Laves phase compounds RCo2(R = Pr, Nd, Sm, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, ErandLu) and YCo2 between 4.2 and 300 K. DyCo2 HoCo2 and ErCo2 exhibit a first-order transition at Tc. In SmCo2 and TbCo2 the phase transition is of the second-order accompanied by a large lattice softening. NdCo2, GdCo2 and HoCo2 show spin reorientations from one easy direction of magnetization to another one, at low temperatures, below Tc.The influence of an external magnetic field (up to 25 kOe) on the elastic properties of these Laves phases, the so-called ΔE effect was determined. No saturation was reached in SmCo2, TbCo2 and DyCo2 in magnetic fields up to 25 kOe. The behavior of the RCo2 compounds was compared with that of RFe2, published earlier.  相似文献

Magnetization measurements in d.c. magnetic fields up to 180 kOe have been performed on polycrystalline specimens and on single crystals of mixed terbium-yttrium iron garnets: Tb x Y3–x Fe5O12 in the 4.2–300 K temperature range. On polycrystals (x=2.5; 2; 1; 0.37) the concentration dependence of both compensation point and spontaneous magnetization has been determined. In the single crystals (x=2; 1; 0.37) a strong magnetic anisotropy has been observed with a change of the easy direction of magnetization from [111] to [100] whenx decreases; abrupt field-induced transitions have been observed at low temperatures when the external field is applied along the [100] direction.  相似文献
