We consider a class of quasi‐linear evolution equations with non‐linear damping and source terms arising from the models of non‐linear viscoelasticity. By a Galerkin approximation scheme combined with the potential well method we prove that when m<p, where m(?0) and p are, respectively, the growth orders of the non‐linear strain terms and the source term, under appropriate conditions, the initial boundary value problem of the above‐mentioned equations admits global weak solutions and the solutions decay to zero as t→∞. The paper studies the existence and non-existence of global weak solutions to the Cauchy problem for a class of quasi-linear wave equations with nonlinear damping and source terms. It proves that when α?max{m,p}, where m+1, α+1 and p+1 are, respectively, the growth orders of the nonlinear strain terms, the nonlinear damping term and the source term, under rather mild conditions on initial data, the Cauchy problem admits a global weak solution. Especially in the case of space dimension N=1, the weak solutions are regularized and so generalized and classical solution both prove to be unique. On the other hand, if 0?α<1, and the initial energy is negative, then under certain opposite conditions, any weak solution of the Cauchy problem blows up in finite time. And an example is shown.  相似文献

The paper studies the global existence and asymptotic behavior of weak solutions to the Cauchy problem for quasi-linear wave equations with viscous damping. It proves that when pmax{m,α}, where m+1, α+1 and p+1 are, respectively, the growth orders of the nonlinear strain terms, the nonlinear damping term and the source term, the Cauchy problem admits a global weak solution, which decays to zero according to the rate of polynomial as t→∞, as long as the initial data are taken in a certain potential well and the initial energy satisfies a bounded condition. Especially in the case of space dimension N=1, the solutions are regularized and so generalized and classical solution both prove to be unique. Comparison of the results with previous ones shows that there exist clear boundaries similar to thresholds among the growth orders of the nonlinear terms, the states of the initial energy and the existence, asymptotic behavior and nonexistence of global solutions of the Cauchy problem.  相似文献

In this paper we consider the non‐linear wave equation a,b>0, associated with initial and Dirichlet boundary conditions. We prove, under suitable conditions on α,β,m,p and for negative initial energy, a global non‐existence theorem. This improves a result by Yang (Math. Meth. Appl. Sci. 2002; 25 :825–833), who requires that the initial energy be sufficiently negative and relates the global non‐existence of solutions to the size of Ω. This paper is concerned with the non‐linear viscoelastic equation We prove global existence of weak solutions. Furthermore, uniform decay rates of the energy are obtained assuming a strong damping Δut acting in the domain and provided the relaxation function decays exponentially. The paper concerns existence of weak solutions to the equations describing a motion of some non‐Newtonian fluids with non‐standard growth conditions of the Cauchy stress tensor. Motivated by the fluids of strongly inhomogeneous behavior and having the property of rapid shear thickening, we observe that the Lp framework is not suitable to capture the described situation. We describe the growth conditions with the help of general x‐dependent convex function. This formulation yields the existence of solutions in generalized Orlicz spaces. As examples of motivation for considering non‐Newtonian fluids in such spaces, we recall the electrorheological fluids, magnetorheological fluids, and shear thickening fluids. The existence of solutions is established by the generalization of the classical Minty method to non‐reflexive spaces. The result holds under the assumption that the lowest growth of the Cauchy stress is greater than the critical exponent q=(3d+ 2)/(d+ 2), where d is for space dimension. The restriction on the exponent q is forced by the convective term. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We study the global existence, asymptotic behaviour, and global non‐existence (blow‐up) of solutions for the damped non‐linear wave equation of Kirchhoff type in the whole space: utt+ut=(a+b∥∇u2γu+∣uαu in ℝN×ℝ+ for a, b⩾0, a+b>0, γ⩾1, and α>0, with initial data u(x, 0)=u0(x) and ut(x, 0)=u1(x). This paper is a continuation of our recent paper 8 . We will consider the semi‐linear Cauchy problem for wave models with scale‐invariant time‐dependent mass and dissipation and power non‐linearity. The goal is to study the interplay between the coefficients of the mass and the dissipation term to prove global existence (in time) of small data energy solutions assuming suitable regularity on the L2 scale with additional L1 regularity for the data. In order to deal with this L2 regularity in the non‐linear part, we will develop and employ some tools from Harmonic Analysis.  相似文献

A modified model for a binary fluid is analysed mathematically. The governing equations of the motion consists of a Cahn–Hilliard equation coupled with a system describing a class of non‐Newtonian incompressible fluid with p‐structure. The existence of weak solutions for the evolution problems is shown for the space dimension d=2 with p? 2 and for d=3 with p? 11/5. The existence of measure‐valued solutions is obtained for d=3 in the case 2? p< 11/5. Similar existence results are obtained for the case of nondifferentiable free energy, corresponding to the density constraint |ψ| ? 1. We also give regularity and uniqueness results for the solutions and characterize stable stationary solutions. Copyright © 2006 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the equation under non‐linear boundary conditions which model the vibrations of a beam clamped at x=0 and supported by a non‐linear bearing at x=L. By adding only one damping mechanism at x=L, we prove the existence of a global solution and exponential decay of the energy. Copyright © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The paper studies the existence, asymptotic behaviour and stability of global solutions to the initial boundary value problem for a class of strongly damped non‐linear wave equations. By a H00.5ptk‐Galerkin approximation scheme, it proves that the above‐mentioned problem admits a unique classical solution depending continuously on initial data and decaying to zero as t→+∞as long as the non‐linear terms are sufficiently smooth; they, as well as their derivatives or partial derivatives, are of polynomial growth order and the initial energy is properly small. This paper studies the existence and the non‐existence of global solutions to the initial boundary value problems for the non‐linear wave equation utt + uxxxx = σ(ux)x + f(x, t) and the Boussinesq‐type equation utt + uxxxx = σ(u)xx + f(x, t). The paper proves that every above‐mentioned problem has a unique global solution under rather mild confining conditions, and arrives at some sufficient conditions of blow‐up of the solutions in finite time. Finally, a few examples are given. Copyright © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We study the asymptotic behaviour in time of incompressible non‐Newtonian fluids in the whole space assuming that initial data also belong to L1. Firstly, we consider the weak solution to the power‐law model with non‐zero external forces and we find the asymptotic behaviour in time of this solution in the same class of existence and uniqueness with p?. Secondly, we are interested in the asymptotic behaviour of weak solutions to the second grade model, and finally, we deal with the asymptotic behaviour in time of weak solutions to a simplified model of viscoelastic fluids of the Oldroyd type. We consider the bidimensional stationary Stefan problem with convection. The problem is governed by a coupled system involving a non‐linear Darcy's law and the energy balance equation with second member in L1. We prove existence of at least one weak solution of the problem, using the penalty method and the Schauder fixed point principle. Copyright © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the non‐linear wave equation a,b>0, associated with initial and Dirichlet boundary conditions. Under suitable conditions on α, m, and p, we give precise decay rates for the solution. In particular, we show that for m=0, the decay is exponential. This work improves the result by Yang (Math. We study in this paper the global existence and exponential decay of solutions of the non‐linear unidimensional wave equation with a viscoelastic boundary condition. We prove that the dissipation induced by the memory effect is strong enough to secure global estimates, which allow us to show existence of global smooth solution for small initial data. We also prove that the solution decays exponentially provided the resolvent kernel of the relaxation function, k decays exponentially. When k decays polynomially, the solution decays polynomially and with the same rate. Copyright © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider a one‐dimensional non‐linear system of thermoelasticity with second sound. We establish an exponential decay result for solutions with small ‘enough’ initial data. This work extends the result of Racke (Math. Methods Appl. Sci. 2002; 25 :409–441) to a more general situation. Copyright © 2004 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

This work is concerned with the periodic problem for compressible non‐isentropic Euler–Maxwell systems with a temperature damping term arising in plasmas. For this problem, we prove the global in time existence of a smooth solution around a given non‐constant steady state with the help of an induction argument on the order of the mixed time‐space derivatives of solutions in energy estimates. Moreover, we also show the convergence of the solution to this steady state as the time goes to the infinity. This phenomenon on the charge transport shows the essential relation of the systems with the non‐isentropic Euler–Maxwell and the isentropic Euler–Maxwell systems.
