We present the predictions of the Glashow-Weinberg-Salam [1] (GWS) model for the total cross-section and the angular and invariantmass differential cross sections for the reaction \(p\bar p \to W^ + W^ - X\) . We contrast these GWS predictions with those obtained by varying the anomalous magnetic moment of theW(κ), the analogue for theZWW coupling (κ z ) and the relative strength of the γWW andZWW couplings (ω) from their GWS values. We find that changes in these parameters produce significant changes in both the total cross section and the angular and invariant mass differential cross sections. We also present the angular distribution of the decay leptons (W +→/+v l) and find in all cases it closely mirrors theW + angular distribution. We have given the intermediate results for the dominant quark subprocesses \((u\bar u \to W^ + W^ - ,d\bar d \to W^ + W^ - )\) .  相似文献

In composite models of quarks, leptons and weak bosons whereW-constituents are colored objects, color octet partners ofW ± andZ 0 are predicted. We study in detail the phenomenology of these particles. Independent of the specific model one expects a color octet isotriplet of vector bosons (W 8 ± ,Z 8 0 ) with mass in the range of 100–200 GeV, and a color octet isosinglet vector bosonV 8 0 with substantially larger mass, due to mixing with the gluon. Moreover, relatively light color octet excitations of the leptons appear, while the existence of “color exotic” partners of the quarks is model dependent. These particles decay mainly into a lepton (quark) and a gluon. We construct the couplings ofW 8 ± ,Z 8 0 andV 8 0 to ordinary and “color exotic” fermions. The signals of color octet weak bosons in low energy weak reactions are explored in detail. The production cross section ofW 8 ± (Z 8 0 ) in hadron-hadron collisions is calculated for \(0.54TeV \leqq \sqrt s \leqq 20TeV\) . Various decay modes of colored weak bosons are studied. The most prominent decay signatures ofW 8 ± andZ 8 0 are events of the type (l +-: charged lepton;j: hadronic jet; : missing transverse momentum). The present CERN \(p\bar p\) collider data on such events are discussed in the light ofW 8 ± andZ 8 0 decays. If colored weak bosons are not found with a mass less than ~250 GeV composite model building will be strongly restricted.  相似文献

We study \(e^ + e^ - \to \tilde e^ + \tilde e^ - \) together with \(\tilde e^ \pm \) decay emphasizing the importance of neutralino mixing in thet-channel at energies above theZ 0 resonance. This illustrated in three different mixing scenarios. Formulae for \(e^ + e^ - \to \bar \tilde v_e \tilde v_e \) are also given.  相似文献

CP violation in partial-decay-rate asymmetries are examined for some two-body baryonic decays of \(B_d^0 - \bar B_d^0 \) system. We discuss two feasible experimental circumstances: the symmetrice + e ? collisions (i) on theZ 0 resonance to produce incoherent \(B_d^0 \bar B_d^0 \) states, and (ii) just above the ?(4S) resonance to produceC=even \(B_d^0 \bar B_d^0 \) states. Using the quark-diagram scheme, we estimate the branching ratios of those decays, and the numbers ofb \(\bar b\) pairs needed for testing theCP-violating effects for 3σ signature. We find that the promising channels may beB d 0 , \(\bar B_d^0 \to p\bar p\) , \(\Delta ^ + \bar \Delta ^ - \) , \(p\bar \Delta ^ - \) , \(\Delta ^ + \bar p\) , \(n\bar n\) , \(\Delta ^0 \bar \Delta ^0 \) , \(n\bar \Delta ^0 \) , \(\Delta ^0 \bar n\) , \(\Sigma _c^ + \bar \Sigma _c^ - \) , \(\Lambda _c^ + \bar \Lambda _c^ - \) , \(\Sigma _c^ + \bar \Lambda _c^ - \) , \(\Lambda _c^ + \bar \Sigma _c^ - \) , \(\Sigma _c^0 \bar \Sigma _c^0 \) , \(\Xi _c^0 \bar \Xi _c^0 \) , which should be interesting for experimental observation.  相似文献

We calculate, the partial width for the tree level decay of theZ boson into four massive fermions atO2) and \(O(\alpha _s^2 )\) . Analytic expressions for the helicity amplitudes are presented. We also present ‘observable’ widths for the case when the fermions are energetic and well separated, and make a comparison between the massive and massless matrix elements in this region. We make a direct comparison between the four fermion decay and the production and decay of the Higgs boson via the Bjorken mechanism, \(Z \to H\mu ^ + \mu ^ - \to q\bar q\mu ^ + \mu ^ - \) . Provided the detector resolution is good, \(\Delta m_{q\bar q} \) ~ few GeV, the Higgs signal stands clearly above the four fermion background for all Higgs boson masses considered.  相似文献

The structure of the 18O nucleus at excitation energies above the $ \alpha$ decay threshold was studied using 14C + $ \alpha$ resonance elastic scattering. A number of states with large $ \alpha$ reduced widths have been observed, indicating that the $ \alpha$ -cluster degree of freedom plays an important role in this N $ \ne$ Z nucleus. A 0+ state with an $ \alpha$ reduced width exceeding the single-particle limit was identified at an excitation energy of 9.9±0.3 MeV. We discuss evidence that states of this kind are common in light nuclei and give possible explanations of this feature.  相似文献

We discuss the effect of CP-violatingZb $\bar b$ Zb $\bar b$ G andZb $\bar b$ γ couplings on the width Γ(Z→b $\bar b$ X). The presence of such couplings leads in a natural way to an increase of this width relative to the prediction of the standard model. Various strategies of a direct search for such CP-violating couplings by using CP-odd observables are outlined. The number ofZ bosons required to obtain significant information on the couplings in this way is well within the reach of present LEP experiments.  相似文献

A search for narrow Θ+(1540), a candidate for a pentaquark baryon with positive strangeness, has been performed in an exclusive proton-induced reaction $p + C(N) \to \Theta ^ + \bar \kappa ^0 + C(N)$ on carbon nuclei or quasifree nucleons at $E_{beam} = 70GeV(\sqrt s = 11.5GeV)$ studying nK +, pK S 0 , and pK L 0 decay channels of Θ+(1540) in four different final states of the $\Theta ^ + \bar K^0 $ system. In order to assess the quality of the identification of the final states with neutron or K L 0 , we reconstructed Λ(1520) → nK S 0 and ?K L 0 K S 0 decays in the calibration reactions p + C(N) → Λ (1520)K ++C(N) and p+C(N) → p?+C(N). We found no evidence for a narrow pentaquark peak in any of the studied final states and decay channels. Assuming that the production characteristics of the $\Theta ^ + \bar K^0 $ system are not drastically different from those of the Λ(1520)K + and p? systems, we established upper limits on the cross-section ratios $\sigma (\Theta ^ + \bar K^0 )/\sigma (\Lambda (1520)K^ + ) < 0.02$ and $\sigma (\Theta ^ + \bar K^0 )/\sigma (p\phi ) < 0.15$ at 90% C.L. and a preliminary upper limit for the forward-hemisphere cross section $\sigma (\Theta ^ + \bar K^0 )$ nb/nucleon.  相似文献

We determine the radiative decay amplitudes for the decay into D* and $ \bar{{D}}$ $ \gamma$ , or D * s and $ \bar{{D}}_{s}^{}$ $ \gamma$ of some of the charmonium-like states classified as X , Y , Z resonances, plus some other hidden charm states which are dynamically generated from the interaction of vector mesons with charm. The mass distributions as a function of the $ \bar{{D}}$ $ \gamma$ or $ \bar{{D}}_{s}^{}$ $ \gamma$ invariant mass show a peculiar behavior as a consequence of the D * $ \bar{{D}}^{*}_{}$ nature of these states. The experimental search of these magnitudes can shed light on the nature of these states.  相似文献

Within the standardSU(2)×U(1) model differential cross sections and angular distributions of all polarization states are studied for all channels of gauge vector boson pairs accessible in hadron hadron collisions,W + W ?,Z 0 Z 0,Zγ,ZW, γW. The zero in the unpolarized angular distribution ofq \(\bar q\) reported theoretically by Mikaelian et al. [1] is confirmed. The origin of this zero is studied which was discovered by Brown, Mikaelian, Samuel, and Shadev. None of the other channels exhibits a zero in the unpolarized angular distribution, but strong minima at cosΘ=0 are predicted for \(q_i \bar q_j \to Z\gamma \) and \(q_i \bar q_j \to ZW^ + \) . These are of different origin than the Mikaelian zero. Simple structure functions suggest that these minima are seen inp \(\bar p\) collisions.  相似文献

We present numerical calculations of the production cross section of a heavy Z?? resonance in hadron?Chadron collisions with subsequent decay into top?Cantitop pairs. In particular, we consider the leptophobic topcolor Z?? discussed under Model IV of hep-ph/9911288, which has predicted cross sections large enough to be experimentally accessible at the Fermilab Tevatron and the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. This article presents an updated calculation valid for the Tevatron and all proposed LHC collision energies. Cross sections are presented for various Z?? widths, in $p\bar{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=2\mbox{~TeV}$ , and in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}=7, 8, 10 \mbox{ and } 14\mbox{~TeV}$ .  相似文献

We investigate the effects of final state interactions (FSI) contributions in the nonleptonic two body $B^ + \to D_S^ + \bar K^0$ decay, however the hadronic decay of $B^ + \to D_S^ + \bar K^0$ is analyzed by using “QCD factorization” (QCDF) method and final state interaction (FSI). First, the $B^ + \to D_S^ + \bar K^0$ decay is calculated via QCDF method and only the annihilation graphs exist in that method. Hence, the FSI must be seriously considered to solve the $B^ + \to D_S^ + \bar K^0$ decay and the D 0π+(D 0+), D +π0(D +0) and D +η c (D +*J/ψ) via the exchange of K +(*), K 0(*) and D s +(*) mesones are chosen for the intermediate states. To estimate the intermediate states amplitudes, the QCDF method is again used. These amplitudes are used in the absorptive part of the diagrams. The experimental branching ratio of $B^ + \to D_S^ + \bar K^0$ decay is less than 8 × 10?4 and the predicted branching ratio is 0.23 × 10?9 in the absence of FSI effects and it becomes 6.74 × 10?4 when FSI contributions are taken into account.  相似文献

In the present note we further explore the possibility of measuring the number of \(\bar vv\) generations by means of \(Z^0 \to \bar vv\) decays. We investigate in particular the case where the radiative transitionse + e ? →γZ 0 are studied on theZ 0 resonance itself. The various background reactions are discussed as well as the statistical significance that can be obtained for an additional \(\bar vv\) generation.  相似文献

The Higgs-boson decay \(h \rightarrow \gamma \ell ^+ \ell ^-\) for various lepton states \(\ell = (e, \, \mu , \, \tau )\) is analyzed. The differential decay width and forward–backward asymmetry are calculated as functions of the dilepton invariant mass in a model where the Higgs boson interacts with leptons and quarks via a mixture of scalar and pseudoscalar couplings. These couplings are partly constrained from data on the decays to leptons, \(h \rightarrow \ell ^+ \ell ^-\) , and quarks \(h \rightarrow q \bar{q} \) (where \(q = (c, \, b)\) ), while the Higgs couplings to the top quark are chosen from the two-photon and two-gluon decay rates. Nonzero values of the forward–backward asymmetry will manifest effects of new physics in the Higgs sector. The decay width and asymmetry integrated over the dilepton invariant mass are also presented.  相似文献

The charged hyperon beam at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) has been used to collect data on semileptonic decays of Σ?, Ξ?, andΛ. A magnetic channel selected 100 GeV/c negatively charged particles produced in the forward direction by interaction of a 210 GeV/c proton beam on a BeO target. The Σ? and Ξ? hyperons were concurrently identified in a DISC ?erenkov counter, and their decay products were analysed by a magnetic spectrometer. Electron-hadron discrimination was achieved by the combined use of lead glass and lead/scintillator counters, transition radiation detectors, and a ?erenkov counter. In this article we report results on the \(\Xi \to \Lambda \pi (\Lambda \to pe\bar v), \Xi \to \Lambda e\bar v(\Lambda \to p\pi ),\) and \(\Xi \to \sum ^0 e\bar v(\sum ^0 \to \Lambda \gamma ) (\Lambda \to p\pi )\) decay modes. Samples of 7,111 \(\Lambda \to pe\bar v, 2,608 \Xi \to \Lambda e\bar v\) , and \(154 \Xi \to \Sigma ^0 e\bar v\) were used in our analysis. The branching ratio measurements gave values of (8.57±0.36)×10?4, (5.64±0.31)×10?4, and (0.87±0.17)×10?4 for \(\Lambda \to pe\bar v, \Xi \to \Lambda e\bar v\) , and \( \Xi \to \sum ^0 e\bar v\) , respectively. Measurements of the Λ polarization and of the centre-of-mass distributions yield the axial vector to vector form factor ratio,g 1/f 1=+0.70±0.03 for \(\Lambda \to pe\bar v\) , andg 1/f 1=+0.25±0.05 for \(\Xi \to \Lambda e\bar v\) . The effects ofq 2-dependence off 1 andg 1 and of radiative corrections, the measurement of the weak magnetism termf 2, and the effect of possible second-class current terms are discussed. Results on the \(\sum \to \Lambda e\bar v\) and \(\sum \to ne\bar v\) decay modes are reported in separate articles.  相似文献

We calculate the decay rate for the processZ Boson→W Boson+fermion+antifermion. The result is applied to compute the decay rates for \(Z \to W^ + + l + \bar v_l \) ,l=e, μ or τ andZ→W ++anything in the Weinberg-Salam model. At the present experimental value of sin2 θ w=0.23 the branching ratios for the above processes are \(\Gamma (Z \to W^ + l\bar v_l )/\Gamma (Z \to all) \simeq 9 \times 10^{ - 9} \) and Γ(Z→W ++anything)/Γ(Z→all)?8×10?8.  相似文献

The decay width of theZ 0 associated with its coupling tou andd quarks is usually expressed as the incoherent sum of the widths into \(u\bar u\) and \(d\bar d\) final states, \(\Gamma (u\bar u) + \Gamma (d\bar d)\) . We examine a specific correction to this estimate arising from the coherence of the \(u\bar u\) and \(d\bar d\) systems, dictated by isospin symmetry. The decay width is written in the alternative form Γ(G=+1)+Γ(G=?1), which recognises that final hadronic states can be classified according to even and odd G-parity. Assuming that states withG=+1(?1) evolve from configurations containing even (odd) numbers ofG=?1 systems, and considering various multiplicity distributions for such systems, small corrections are obtained relative to the conventional estimate. A similar analysis applied to the cross section for \(e^ + e^ - \to u\bar u, d\bar d\) yields small energy-dependent corrections to the parameter R.  相似文献

We study the production of scalar electrons ine + e ? collisions on and above theZ resonance. By calculating the cross-section for \(e^ + e^ - \to e^ + e^ - \tilde \gamma \tilde \gamma \) we show that scalar electrons with mass above the beam energies \((\sqrt s /2)\) can be identified. In particular if a zino with mass \(m_{\tilde z}< \sqrt s - m_{\tilde \gamma } \) exists then zino production and decay can give a contribution which dominates the γ exchange contributions. We present final state distributions.  相似文献

\(N\bar N\) annihilation into three pseudoscalar mesons especially πππ and \(K\bar K\pi \) are studied in the quark pair creation model or the3 P 0 model in which two \(q\bar q\) pairs are annihilated and two \(q\bar q\) pairs are created with quantum numbers of the vacuum or3 P 0. The correlations of two pions to form ?,f 2 and the resonance AX(1565) which is recently found by the ASTERIX group are taken into account. A proper treatment of the symmetry among the three pions in the final state shows that the \({}^{31}S_0 p\bar p\) annihilation into ?π is suppressed in agreement with the experiment. We calculate the cosθ distribution or the distribution of the Dalitz plot as the function of the angle between the direction of emission of one decay pion in the resonance centre of mass and the line of flight of the resonance. The interferences of π+ρ+, π?ρ+ and π0ρ0 in the isospin 0 channels and π±ρ? and π0 f 2 in the isospin 1 channel reproduce the peaks. The cos θ distribution for the P-wave \(p\bar p\) annihilation into πAX depends strongly on the size of the pion since the amplitude interfers with the π±ρ? amplitude which is sensitive to the size of the pion. The same model qualitatively explains the \(p\bar p\) annihilation into \(K\bar K\pi \) in whichK or \(\bar K\) and π are correlated to formK* \(\bar K\) or \(\bar K\) *K final states. We can qualitatively reproduce different patterns of the cos θ distribution for theK *+ andK *0.  相似文献
