The novel TiO2 nanopartilces/nanowires (TNPWs) composite with ZrO2 nanoparticles (ZNPs) shell-coated photoanodes were prepared to fabricate high-performance dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) based on different types of electrolytes. Hafnium oxide (HfO2) is a new and efficient blocking layer material applied over the TNPWs-ZNPs core-shell photoanode film. TiO2 nanoparticles (TNPs) and TiO2 nanowires (TNWs) were characterized by X-ray diffractometer (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). DSSCs were fabricated using the novel photoanodes with an organic sensitizer D149 dye and different types of electrolytes namely liquid electrolyte, ionic liquid electrolyte, solid-state electrolyte, and quasi-solid-state electrolyte. The DSSC-4 made through the novel core-shell photoanode using quasi-solid-state electrolyte showed better photocurrent efficiency (PCE) as compared to the other DSSCs. It has such photocurrent-voltage characteristics: short circuit photocurrent (Jsc)?=?19 mA/cm2, the open circuit voltage (Voc)?=?650 mV, fill factor (FF)?=?65 %, and PCE (η)?=?8.03 %. The improved performance of DSSC-4 is ascribed to the core-shell with blocking layer photoanode could increased electron transport and suppressed recombination of charge carriers at the TNPWs-ZNPs/dye/electrolyte interface.  相似文献

Hierarchical architectures consisting of one-dimensional (1D) nanostructures are of great interest for potential use in energy and environmental applications in recent years. In this work, hierarchical tungsten oxide (WO3) has been synthesized via a facile hydrothermal route from ammonium metatungstate hydrate and implemented as photoelectrode for dye-sensitized solar cells. The urchin-like WO3 micro-patterns are constructed by self-organized nanoscale length 1D building blocks, which are single crystalline in nature, grown along (001) direction and confirm an orthorhombic crystal phase. The obtained powders were investigated by XRD, SEM, TEM and UV–Vis Spectroscopy. The photovoltaic performance of dye-sensitized solar cells based on WO3 photoanodes was investigated. With increasing the calcination temperature of the prepared nanopowders, the light-electricity conversion efficiency (η) was increased. The results were attributed to increase the crystallinity of the particles and ease of electron movement. The DSSC based on hierarchical WO3 showed a short-circuit current, an open-circuit voltage, a fill factor, and a conversion efficiency of 4.241 mA/cm2, 0.656 V, 66.74, and 1.85 %, respectively.  相似文献

Hydrothermal process has been employed to synthesize titanium oxide (TiO2) bottle brush. The nanostructured bottle brushes with tetragonal nanorods of ~75 nm diameter have been synthesized by changing the nature of the precursors and hydrothermal processing parameters. The morphological features and structural properties of TiO2 films were investigated by field emission scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, high-resolution transmission electron spectroscopy, Fourier transform Raman spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The influence of such nanostructures on the performance of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) is investigated in detail. The interface and transient properties of these nanorods and bottle brush-based photoanodes in DSSCs were analyzed by electrochemical impedance spectroscopic measurements in order to understand the critical factors contributing to such high power conversion efficiency. Surface area of sample was recorded using Brunauer–Emmett–Teller measurements. It is found that bottle brush provides effective large surface area 89.34 m2 g?1 which is much higher than TiO2 nanorods 63.7 m2 g?1. Such effective surface area can facilitate the effective light harvesting, and hence improves the dye adsorption and the photovoltaic performance of DSSCs, typically in short-circuit photocurrent and power conversion efficiency. A best power conversion efficiency of 6.63 % has been achieved. We believe that the present device performance would have wide interests in dye-sensitized solar cell research.  相似文献

ZnO nanostructures were prepared by thermal oxidation technique for applying as ethanol sensors and dye-sensitized solar cells. To improve sensitivity of the sensor based on ZnO nanostructures, gold doping was performed in ZnO nanostructures. Gold-doped with 0%, 5%, and 10% by weight were investigated. The improvement of sensor sensitivity toward ethanol due to gold doping was observed at entire operating temperature and ethanol concentration. The sensitivity up to 145 was obtained for 10% Au-doped ZnO sensor. This can be explained by an increase of the quantity of oxygen ion due to catalytic effect of gold. Also, it was found that oxygen ion species at the surface of the Au-doped ZnO sensor remained O2− as pure ZnO sensor. For dye-sensitized solar cell application, the dye-sensitized solar cell structure based on ZnO as a photoelectrode was FTO/ZnO/Eosin-Y/electrolyte/Pt counter electrode. ZnO with different morphologies of nanobelt, nano-tetrapod, and powder were investigated. It was found that DSSCs with ZnO powder showed higher photocurrent, photovoltage and overall energy conversion efficiencies than that of ZnO nanobelt and ZnO nano-tetrapod. The best results of DSSCs were the short circuit current (Jsc) of 1.25 mA/cm2, the open circuit voltage (Voc) of 0.45 V, the fill factor (FF) of 0.65 and the overall energy conversion efficiency (η) of 0.68%.  相似文献

The ZnO nanowire (NW) array/TiO2 nanoparticle (NP) composite photoelectrode with controllable NW aspect ratio has been grown from aqueous solutions for the fabrication of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), which combines the advantages of the rapid electron transport in ZnO NW array and the high surface area of TiO2 NPs. The results indicate that the composite photoelectrode achieves higher overall photoelectrical conversion efficiency (η) than the ZnO NW alone. As a result, DSSCs based on the ZnO NW array/TiO2 NP composite photoelectrodes get the enhanced photoelectrical conversion efficiency, and the highest η is also achieved by rational tuning the aspect ratio of ZnO NWs. With the proper aspect ratio (ca. 6) of ZnO NW, the ZnO NW array/TiO2 NP composite DSSC exhibits the highest conversion efficiency (5.5 %). It is elucidated by the dye adsorption amount and interfacial electron transport of DSSCs with the ZnO NW array/TiO2 NP composite photoelectrode, which is quantitatively characterized using the UV-Vis absorption spectra and electrochemical impedance spectra. It is evident that the DSSC with the proper aspect ratio of ZnO NW displays the high dye adsorption amount and fastest interfacial electron transfer.  相似文献

ZnO-coated TiO2 (ZTO) thin films were deposited on ITO substrates by a sol–gel method for application as the work electrode for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The IV curve and the incident photon-to-current conversion efficiency (IPCE) value of DSSCs for ZTO thin films were studied and compared with single TiO2 films. The results show that the short-circuit photocurrent (J sc) and open-circuit voltage (V oc) values increased from 3.7 mA/cm2 and 0.68 V for the DSSCs with a single TiO2 film to 4.5 mA/cm2 and 0.72 V, respectively, for the DSSCs with a ZTO thin film. It indicated that the DSSCs with a ZTO thin film contributed to provide an inherent energy barrier that suppressed charge recombination significantly. In addition, the higher IPCE value in the ZTO thin film is attributed to the better charge separation by a fast electron transfer process using two semiconductors with different conduction band edges and energy positions.  相似文献

Titania (TiO2) nanorods have been synthesized with controlled size for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) via hydrothermal route at low hydrothermal temperature of 100 °C for 24 h. The titania nanorods were characterized using XRD, SEM, TEM/HRTEM, UV-vis Spectroscopy, FTIR and BET specific surface area (S BET), as well as pore-size distribution by BJH. The results indicated that the bulk traps and the surface states within the TiO2 nanorods films have enhanced the efficiency of DSSCs. The size of the titania nanorods was 6.7 nm in width and 22 nm in length. The high surface area can provide more sites for dye adsorption, while the fast photoelectron-transfer channel can enhance the photogenerated electron transfer to complete the circuit. The specific surface area S BET was 77.14 m2?g?1 at the synthesis conditions. However, the band gap energy of the obtained titania nanorods was 3.2 eV. The oriented nanorods with appropriate lengths are beneficial in improving the electron transport property and thus leading to the increase of photocurrent, together enhancing the power conversion efficiency. A nearly quantitative absorbed photon-to-electrical current conversion achieved upon excitation at wave length of 550 nm and the power efficiency was enhanced from 5.6 % for commercial TiO2 nanoparticles Degussa (P25) cells to 7.2 % for TiO2 nanorods cells under AM 1.5 illumination (100 mW?cm?2). The TiO2 cells performance was improved due to their high surface area, hierarchically mesoporous structures and fast electron-transfer rate compared with the Degussa (P25).  相似文献

Large-scale macroporous TiO2 nanowires (MTN) were directly grown on spiral-shaped titanium wires as photoanodes of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) via a facile hydrothermal reaction without any seeds, templates, and TiO2 powder. The MTN thin film was characterized by SEM, XRD and TEM. The studies revealed that the MTN thin film had better mechanical properties and provided an efficient pathway for the diffusion of liquid electrolyte. The efficiency of 0.86% for the 3D DSSC was obtained with a J sc of 2.30 mA/cm2, V oc of 616 mV, and FF of 0.61. This MNT-based mini 3D DSSC is a promising photovoltaic device for applications in the fields of high-integrated micro-electronic equipment.  相似文献

GaN nanowires typically exhibit high electron mobility and excellent chemical stability. However, stability of GaN is detrimental for successful attachment of dye molecules and its application in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Here we demonstrate DSSCs based on GaN/gallium oxide and GaN/TiO x core–shell structures, and we show that coating of GaN nanowires with a TiO x shell significantly increases dye adsorption and consequently photovoltaic performance. The best cells exhibited short circuit current density of 1.83 mA/cm2 and power conversion efficiency of 0.44% under AM 1.5 simulated solar illumination.  相似文献

The effect of different compositions (in weight percent) of ethylene carbonate (EC) and propylene carbonate (PC) containing iodide/triiodide redox electrolyte on the photoelectrochemical performance of N719-sensitized nanocrystalline TiO2 solar cell was studied. The cells consisted of 0.6 M 1-hexyl-2,3-dimethylimidazolium iodide, 0.1 M LiI, 0.05 M I2 and 0.5 M 4-tert-butylpyridine in different compositions such as 1:1, 1:2, and 2:1 wt% of EC and PC. In 1:1 wt% of EC and PC containing redox electrolyte, short circuit photocurrent density (J sc) increased and open circuit voltage (V oc) decreased. But in 1:2 and 2:1 wt% of EC and PC containing redox electrolytes, V oc increased and J sc decreased but fill factor remained relatively constant. Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) prepared using these electrolytes give a short circuit photocurrent densities of 16.86, 12.71, and 12.09 mA/cm2; an open circuit voltages of 0.73, 0.78, and 0.79 V; fill factors of 0.63, 0.64, and 0.64; and an overall conversion efficiencies of 7.76, 6.34, and 6.13 % at an incident light of 100 mWcm?2 for 1:1, 2:1, and 1:2 wt% of EC/PC containing redox electrolytes, respectively. The incident photon-to-current conversion efficiency was higher in the case of 1:1 wt% of EC and PC containing redox electrolyte than 1:2 and 2:1 wt% of EC and PC containing redox electrolyte. It revealed that 1:1 wt% of EC and PC containing iodide/triiodide redox electrolyte is an effective electrolyte system for the fabrication of long-term stable DSSC.  相似文献

Indium oxide-multi-walled carbon nanotubes (In2O3-MWCNTs) were prepared by sol-gel method for DSSCs. The synthesis of indium oxide (In2O3) was carried out by dissolving indium chloride (InCl3) in a solvent of 2-methoxyethanol. Different annealing temperatures of 400, 450, 500, 550, and 600 °C were proposed in this study. The changes in the structural properties were analyzed by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) analysis. The XRD spectrum estimated the average crystallite sizes of 3 nm for each sample. AFM results indicated very rough surface area of the films where it increased linearly from 1.8 to 11 nm as the annealing temperature increases. The In2O3-MWCNTs-based DSSC exhibited good photovoltaic performance with power conversion efficiency (η), photocurrent density (J sc ), open circuit voltage (V oc ), and fill factor (FF) of 1.13 %, 5.5 mA/cm2, 0.53 V, and 0.42, respectively. Even though the film annealed at 450 °C exhibited low τ eff, it achieved the greatest D eff of 29.67 cm2 s?1 which provides an efficient pathway for the photogenerated electrons with minimum electron recombination loss that increased the J sc and V oc in the DSSC. The obtained structural and electron transport analysis was proposed as a suitable benchmark for In2O3-MWCNTs-based dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSCs) application. Hence, this study suggests that the optimum temperature for In2O3-MWCNTs is at annealing temperature of 450 °C prepared via sol-gel method.  相似文献

We have demonstrated an approach for the electrostatic assembly of CdTe quantum dots (QDs) with different charged ligands as sensitizers, achieving high coverage and good dispersion in TiO2 porous films. The CdTe QD-sensitized TiO2 porous films were subjected to thermal annealing in a high vacuum chamber to remove the ligand linker, resulting in the formation of direct heterojunctions between the bare CdTe QDs and TiO2 for a favorable charge transfer. The as-received CdTe QD-sensitized TiO2 porous films were employed as photoanodes for quantum dot-sensitized solar cells (QSSCs), and the photocurrent density reached as high as 4.69 mA/cm2 under a standard illumination condition of simulated AM 1.5G (100 mW/cm2).  相似文献

We present a new method of synthesizing ZnO/TiO2 core–shell nanowire (NW) arrays for the fabrication of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Vertically aligned ZnO NW arrays were obtained on Si substrates, and modified by a TiO2 shell in order to solve the recombination problems via a cost-effective spin-coating method. The structure of the ZnO/TiO2 composite NW arrays was characterized. The experimental results indicate that the TiO2 shell enhances the performance of the DSSCs, through improving the stability of the ZnO NWs and decreasing the recombination of photogenerated electrons on the NW surface. The highest overall conversion efficiency of the cell reaches about 3.0 %.  相似文献

Developing efficient and cost-effective photoanode plays a vital role determining the photocurrent and photovoltage in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Here, we demonstrate DSSCs that achieve relatively high power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) by using one-dimensional (1D) zinc oxide (ZnO) nanowires and copper (II) oxide (CuO) nanorods hybrid nanostructures. CuO nanorod-based thin films were prepared by hydrothermal method and used as a blocking layer on top of the ZnO nanowires’ layer. The use of 1D ZnO nanowire/CuO nanorod hybrid nanostructures led to an exceptionally high photovoltaic performance of DSSCs with a remarkably high open-circuit voltage (0.764 V), short current density (14.76 mA/cm2 under AM1.5G conditions), and relatively high solar to power conversion efficiency (6.18%) . The enhancement of the solar to power conversion efficiency can be explained in terms of the lag effect of the interfacial recombination dynamics of CuO nanorod-blocking layer on ZnO nanowires. This work shows more economically feasible method to bring down the cost of the nano-hybrid cells and promises for the growth of other important materials to further enhance the solar to power conversion efficiency.  相似文献

In this paper, TiO2 particles (~30 nm) modified with Gd2O3-coating layer (~2 nm) for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) were fabricated via the hydrothermal method. Among the solar cells based on the Gd3+-doped TiO2 photoanodes, the optimal conversion efficiency was obtained from the 0.025Gd3+-modified TiO2-based cell, with a 17.7% improvement in the efficiency as compared to the unmodified one (7.18%). This enhancement was probably due to the improved UV radiation harvesting via a down-conversion luminescence process by Gd3+ ions, enhancement of visible light absorption and improved dye loading capacity. In addition, after Gd modification, a thin coating could be formed on the TiO2 nanoparticles, which worked as an energy barrier and resulted in a lower charge recombination.  相似文献

We report preparation and improvement in photovoltaic performance of N719-based dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) using pressurized carbon dioxide (CO2) as a co-solvent for the absorption process on the TiO2 photoelectrode surface. Effective absorption of the N719 molecules on the TiO2 surface was achieved using CO2 processing, and the absorption time was shortened drastically from 24 h (in the dip process) to less than 3 h. The cells prepared under pressurized CO2 for the absorption showed greater photovoltaic performance, especially higher short-circuit current density and conversion efficiency, compared with that from typical dip method. It was revealed that the suitable CO2 pressure for the absorption was 5 MPa and the efficiency was achieved to be more than 7.5 %. Prevention of back electron transfer reactions from TiO2 to oxidized dyes or iodides was caused currently, because the homogeneous coverage of N719 molecules on the TiO2 surface was obtained by the use of pressurized CO2.  相似文献

Photoelectrodes of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) have been prepared using nanosized titanium dioxide that have soaked in a solution of different saffron (Crocus sativus L.) spice content in ethanol. The optimized polyacrylonitrile (PAN)-based gel polymer electrolyte with 40.93 wt.% ethylene carbonate, 37.97 wt.% propylene carbonate, 4.37 wt.% tetrapropylammonium iodide, 9.86 wt.% PAN, 1.24 wt.% 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium iodide, 4.35 wt.% lithium iodide and 1.28 wt.% iodine has been used as the electrolyte for DSSC. The electrolyte has conductivity of 2.91 mS cm?1 at room temperature (298 K). DSSCs were also sensitized with saffron solution that has been added with 30 wt.% chenodeoxycholic acid (CDCA) co-adsorbent and designated as DSSC P4. The solar cell converts light-to-electricity at an efficiency of 0.31%. This is 29% enhancement in efficiency for the DSSC without addition of CDCA in the saffron-ethanol solution. The DSSC exhibits current density at short-circuit (J sc ) of 1.26 mA cm?2, voltage at open circuit (V oc ) of 0.48 V and 51% fill factor. DSSC P4 also exhibits the highest incident photon-to-current density of more than 40% at 340 nm wavelength.  相似文献

Pt electrode prepared by chemical method has been employed as counter electrode in dye-sensitized solar cell. TiO2 nanomaterial was deposited on fluorine-doped tin oxide substrate to be used as photoanode. Structure of the TiO2 and Pt films was investigated by atomic force microscope. The effect of illumination intensity on the photovoltaic parameters such as open circuit voltage, short circuit current density, output power, fill factor and efficiency of these cells was investigated in the range 2.5–130 mW/cm?2. The cell efficiency is stable above 70 mW/cm2. The fill factor is almost constant all over the studied range of illumination intensity. Impedance spectroscopy of the studied device as the summary measurements of the capacitance–voltage, conductance–voltage and series resistance–voltage characteristics were investigated in a wide range of frequencies (5 kHz–1 MHz). At low frequencies, the capacitance has positive values with peak around the origin due to the interfaces. At 200 and 300 kHz, the capacitance is inverted to negative with further increasing of the positive biasing voltage. Above 400 kHz, C–V profile shows complete negative behavior. Also, the impedance–voltage and phase–voltage characteristics were investigated. This cell shows a new promising device for photosensor applications due to high sensitivity in low and high illuminations.  相似文献

A unique composite of TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) and nanorods (NRs) has been used to fabricate a photoelectrode for developing dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) with higher sensitivity. The TiO2 nanorods were synthesized using a mechanical process, in which electrospun TiO2 nanofibers was grinded in a controlled way to obtain uniform size distribution. The characteristics of electron transport, recombination lifetime and charge collection were investigated by intensity-modulated photocurrent spectroscopy (IMPS) and intensity-modulated photovoltage spectroscopy (IMVS). Photoelectrodes prepared with the composites of NRs and NPs showed significant improvements in electron transportation compared to only NP photoelectrodes, which would enhance the photovoltaic performance of DSSCs. IMPS and IMVS measurements show that fast electron transport and slightly decreased recombination lifetime resulted in the improvement of efficiency. The highest energy conversion efficiency obtained from the photoelectrodes fabricated with the as-prepared rutile TiO2 nanofibers at 5 wt% NR content was up to 6.1% under AM1.5G solar illumination. The results demonstrate that the composite nanostructure can take advantage of both the fast electron transport of the nanorods and the high surface area of the nanoparticles.  相似文献

WO3-coated TiO2 film was prepared by depositing TiO2 suspension containing small amounts of ammonium tungstate solution. The morphology and structure of the samples were characterized with high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and photoluminescence (PL) emission spectrum. The results showed that WO3 formed a coating layer on surface of TiO2 and significantly reduced the surface traps of TiO2 nanoparticles. Transient photovoltage and electrochemical impedance measurements (EIS) were employed to study the charge separation/recombination process. The results revealed that the charge recombination was greatly retarded and the electron lifetime was increased due to the coating layer of WO3. These observations showed good correlation with current-voltage analyses of dye-sensitized solar cell fabricated from these films, with WO3 overlayer resulting in an increase in open-circuit voltage of up to 37 mV and 11% improvement in overall device efficiency.  相似文献
