An activated carbon-supported copper heterogeneous catalyst based on (Cu/AC) was developed using a wetness impregnation process. The effect of preparation conditions on the catalyst's characteristics was examined. This work focuses on two key parameters: impregnation rate and calcination conditions (temperature and time). Catalysts were characterized by means of nitrogen sorptiometry at 77 K, Boehm analysis and pHpzc analysis. It was found that the catalyst properties and the functional surface groups were affected by the operating conditions. The highest measured surface area, i.e. 1040 m2/g, was obtained for activated carbon (AC) impregnated with 12% of Cu loading after calcination at 550 °C for 2 h. The effect of adding copper on the surface of activated carbon on its adsorption capacity was also examined. The obtained results showed that after impregnation, the adsorption capacity of activated carbon was improved. Additionally, the performance of the Cu/AC catalyst on nitrobenzene ozonation was investigated. Our results show that the use of Cu/AC for heterogeneous catalytic ozonation enhanced significantly the degradation efficiency of nitrobenzene (NB) compared with simple ozonation and with ozonation catalyzed by AC without metal addition.  相似文献

Over the past couple of years, the resurgence of placing an effective and sustainable amendment to combat against the auxiliary industrial entities like Indigo Carmine (IC), remains a highly contested agenda from a global point. The birth of non-linear modelling for these auxiliary entities is also of significant interest in order to avoid loss of some useful information. With the renaissance of activated carbon (AC), the AC prepared from palm kernel shells (PKSAC) and composite prepared by combining the PKSAC and porous volcanic ash (BVA) from the foot of active volcanic mountain of Cameroon will be of significant contribution for ever increasing pollution problems. Non-linear modelling method was used to model the uptake capacity by adsorption process of IC onto PKSAC and PKSAC/BVA composite. Effects of contact time (0–60 min), adsorbent dose, pH of solution and initial dye concentration (10–20 ppm) were studied on the quantity removal of the hazardous IC dye from aqueous solution in a batch experiment. The prepared PKSAC and PKSAC/BVA composite were characterized using Nitrogen adsorption at 77 K (BET), Fourier transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Sacanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X Ray (SEM-EDX), and particle size. The optimum IC uptake was 11.025 and 12.642 mg/g for PKSAC and PKSAC/BVA composites adsorbent respectively. Four Isotherms and kinetic non-linear regression models each were used to model the adsorption data. It results that for the isotherm models, the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models best fitted the adsorption phenomenon while pseudo-first and pseudo-second order kinetic models well described the adsorption mechanism. Furthermore, the adsorption speed constant (α) of the Elovich kinetic model being higher than the desorption coefficient (β) implies chemisorption was the dominant mechanism in the adsorption process. The composite shows 14.67% higher in retention capacity of the IC dye than the pristine carbon. Conclusively, the expanding of activated carbon/volcanic ash composite represents a potentially viable and powerful tool, leading to the plausible improvement of environmental preservation.  相似文献

During the recycling of exhausted lead-acid battery, large amount of wastewater is discharged, which contains the toxic Pb(II) ions in high concentration. In this study, the granular activated carbon after modification with sulfuric acid has been used to remove the Pb(II) ions from this wastewater. Adsorbents were characterized using Fourier Transform Infrared, Scanning Electron Microscope, and X-Ray Diffraction analyzer. Taguchi orthogonal L16 array (4^3) was used for batch adsorption study with four levels of three factors initial pH, adsorbent dose, and contact time. Optimum level of parameters was fourty + nd pH 4.5, time 240 min, and dose 0.05 g/50 mL using signal-to-noise ratio (larger-the-better response). Analysis of variance technique was used to signify the adsorption experiment model. The effect of parameters on uptake capacity of adsorbent has been evaluated. Maximum adsorbent capacity for Pb(II) uptake from wastewater of battery recycling unit was found 8.19 mg/g after modification with sulfuric acid. To further understand the mechanism of adsorption, isotherm and kinetic studies were carried out. Experimental data were well fitted with Langmuir isotherm model and pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The study suggested that H2SO4 modified granular activated carbon can be potentially used to remove Pb(II) from lead-acid battery recycle wastewater.  相似文献

Copper modified activated carbon was explored by N2 adsorption, XRD, SEM, EDX and FT-IR. The parameters of the optimal conditions, including the loading temperature, heating time, heating rate, ionic concentration and dipping time, were 450 °C, 40 min, 25 °C/min, 0.1 mol/L and 12 h, respectively. Copper nanoparticles were uniformly arranged on the carbon surface according to SEM analysis. The aqueous solution temperature, initial dose and adsorbent dose of copper modified AC were the parameters of the simultaneous experiment. The Langmuir isotherm model was revealed according to the applicable experimental data, the kinetic data were fit with a pseudo-second-order equation model, and the thermodynamic parameters indicated that MB adsorption was an endothermic and spontaneous process.  相似文献

This study reports the synthesis of mesoporous metal-modified nitrogen doped activated carbon (AC-N-Mo) from date seeds by ZnCl2 activation and its applicability for selective adsorptive desulfurization of dibenzothiophene (DBT). The AC-N-Mo exhibits higher adsorption capacity for DBT at 100 mg-S/L with the maximum removal percentage of 99.7 % corresponding to 19.94 mg-S/g at room temperature than the unmodified carbon with 17.96 mg-S/g despite its highest surface area and pore volume of 1027 m2g?1 and 0.55 cm3g?1 respectively. The adsorption capacity breakthrough follows the order AC-N-Mo > AC-Mo > AC > AC-N. Also, AC-N-Mo displays excellent selectivity in the presence of aromatics (toluene, naphthalene, and 1-methylisoquinoline). The enhancement in the DBT uptake capacities of AC-N-Mo is attributed to the synergistic effect of nitrogen heteroatom that aids the dispersion of molybdenum nanoparticles on carbon surface thereby improving its surface chemistry and promising textural characteristics. The kinetic studies showed that the DBT adsorption proceeds via pseudo-second order kinetics while the isotherm revealed that Langmuir fit the data more accurately for the adsorbents. The physical properties (surface area, pore volume, particle size, etc.) and chemical properties (carbon content, etc.) of as-prepared adsorbents namely; AC, AC-N, AC-N-Mo, and AC-Mo were characterized by N2– physisorption, X-ray Diffraction (XRD), X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), Scanning Electron Spectroscopy/Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (SEM/EDS), Raman Spectroscopy (RS), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and Ammonia-Temperature-Programmed Desorption (NH3-TPD).  相似文献

Adsorptive removal of dichloromethane, chloroform, and carbon tetrachloride from aqueous solutions at 25 °C by activated carbon (AC) that was loaded with cerium oxide nanoparticles (CeO2-NP/AC) was investigated. The developed adsorbent was characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), FTIR spectrophotometer, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). The effect of contact time, initial concentration, and the adsorbent dosage were also studied. The equilibrium and kinetics of adsorption were studied in a batch-type adsorption system, and the equilibrium experimental data were analyzed using Langmuir, Freundlich, and Temkin isotherm models. Freundlich adsorption isotherm showed the best fit for the equilibrium adsorption data. Three adsorption kinetic models, pseudo first- and second-order, and intraparticle diffusion models were applied to test the kinetic data. Kinetic characterization of the adsorption process onto CeO2-NP/AC is well-described by the pseudo second-order model, and the adsorption best-fit by the intraparticle diffusion model. Our study shows that at optimum conditions, 82.72%, 99.40% and 89.42% of dichloromethane, chloroform, and tetrachloride, respectively, were removed by CeO2-NP/AC, at concentration between 0.25 and 5.00 g/L.  相似文献

The abundance of gasification char residues which contributed to solid waste management problem is one of the major concerns in biomass gasification industry. This study focuses on synthesizing gasified Glyricidia sepium woodchip based activated carbon (GGSWAC) for the removal of basic green 4 (BG4) dye, evaluating the GGSWAC physicochemical properties and assessing the BG4 adsorption performance in batch and fixed-bed column systems. The optimal conditions of GGSWAC synthesis were at radiation power, time, and impregnation ratio (IR) of 616 W, 1 min and 1.93 g/g, respectively. The surface area (SBET) and total pore volume (TPV) of GGSWAC were 633.30 m2/g and 0.34 cm3/g, respectively. The Fritz–Schlünder best fitted to the experimental data at all temperatures in the isothermal studies, indicating a monolayer adsorption. The kinetic study showed that BG4 adsorption followed Avrami kinetic model. Based on thermodynamic parameters, the adsorption of BG4 dye onto GGSWAC was an endothermic and spontaneous process. In continuous operation, the Thomas and Yoon–Nelson models successfully predicted BG4 adsorption onto GGSWAC. The low production cost of 0.54 USD/kg showed that GGSWAC is economically feasible for commercialization.  相似文献

This study demonstrates the adsorption experiments of toxic dyes malachite green (MG) and Rhodamine B (RB) on Fe3O4-loaded activated carbon (AC). AC, which is known to be a high-capacity adsorbent, was aimed to be easily separated from aqueous media by loading it with Fe3O4. Fe3O4-loaded AC was prepared by the coprecipitation method and named magnetic activated carbon (M-AC), and the produced M-AC was characterized by x-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and pHpzc analyses. MG and RB adsorption by the M-AC was performed separately by batch technique and the effects of adsorbent amount, solution pH, and initial dye concentration on the adsorption were explored. Maximum removal efficiencies were found to be 96.11% for MG and 98.54% for RB, and the Langmuir isotherm model was the most fitted isotherm model for the adsorption. The kinetic and thermodynamic studies showed that the adsorption proceeded via the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and endothermic in-nature for both dyes.  相似文献

Almond shell agricultural biomass was used to prepare high surface area activated carbon using potassium hydroxide as activating agent. The activated carbon (AC) was characterized using X-Ray photoelectron spectroscopy, X-Ray diffraction, Thermogravimetric and differential thermal analyses, Scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared, Brunauer–Emmett–Teller surface area and Raman spectroscopy. The AC was found to have a high surface area of 2054 m2 g?1. The influence of various key parameters was evaluated on the adsorption process including contact time, adsorbent dose and solution pH. Isotherm data were modeled using Langmuir and Freundlich models. Langmuir isotherm model presented the best fit to experimental data suggesting homogeneous distribution of adsorption sites. The adsorbent demonstrated high monolayer adsorption capacity of 833.33 and 625.0 mg/g for Methylene Blue and Crystal Violet, respectively. The efficiency of the adsorption process was linked to the micro-mesoporous structure and to the availability of the surface adsorption sites. Response surface methodology was used to optimize the removal efficiency from aqueous solution.  相似文献

Use of activated carbon (AC) prepared from rice husk and treated with anionic surfactant is investigated to eliminate cationic dye crystal violet (CV) using modelled dye solution. AC modified with anionic surfactant sodium lauryl sulfate (ACSLS) and other two surfactant namely sodium dodecyl sulfonate and hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide were used for the analysis. Optimum ACSLS was analyzed and characterized using BET, XRD, SEM accompanied with XEDS, FTIR, HR-TEM and zeta potential, which confirms the sorption of CV onto ACSLS. Influence of pH, dose of adsorbent, concentration of initial dye, contact time, additive salts as well as actual water samples were investigated. Presence of NH4+, Ca2+, Mg2+, Na2+, Ca2+ and K+ cations in dye solution were having negligible (less than 4 %) influence on dye removal capacity. Study of mass transfer parameters revealed intra particle diffusion and film diffusion both played their part, whereas other kinetic studies has shown that experimental data fitted best with Pseudo 2nd order rate. Isotherm studies accompanied with error analysis revealed that Langmuir isotherm controls the adsorption equilibrium with highest capacity of CV adsorption with optimum operating conditions as pH = 6, temperature = 318 K, adsorbent dose = 100 mg/L and dye concentration = 30–60 mg/L. Study of thermodynamics and temperature analysis have shown that the sorption reaction was favourable and spontaneous with rise in temperature and endothermic in nature. Column studies are reported for varying rate of flow, depth of bed and dye concentrations along with analysis of column experimental data with various models like Yoon-Nelson, Thomas, Bohart-Adam and Clark model. Reusability (no. of cycles) of used adsorbent was studied using regeneration experiments. Analysis inferred that AC modified using surfactants can be a useful technique for enhanced adsorption capacity of dyes from aqueous solution and not much work has been reported on use of anionic surfactant modified AC for dye removal process.  相似文献

Glycine‐functionalized reduced graphene oxide (GRGO) was prepared through the reaction of glycine and chlorine‐functionalized reduced graphene oxide. The product was characterized by SEM, HRTEM, IR, Raman, and XPS. The nitrogen content (8.28%) was high in product, peak at 285.8 eV was assigned to the C–N bond, which implied that the chlorine residues in raw material were substituted by amine group of glycine. The intensity ratio of D and G peak was about 1.5, which also implied that more saturated carbon atoms were present in the product. Results of SEM, IR, and XPS confirmed that glycine molecules were attached to graphene sheets. Compared with reduced graphene oxide (61.5 mg/g) and active carbon (45.2 mg/g), GRGO had a good adsorption capacity (98.9 mg/g) for methylene blue. The adsorption process was fitted to three kinetic models and three adsorption isotherm models. The adsorption process complied with pseudo‐second order kinetic model and Langmuir model.  相似文献

In this work, a series of magnetic activated carbon/nanodiopside (Fe3O4/AC/Diop) nanocomposites were synthesised and used for the removal of reactive green KE-4BD dye from the aqueous solution. After preparation of nanodiopside by sol-gel method and activated carbon from coconut husk, first, Fe3O4/AC composite was prepared by in situ synthesis of Fe3O4 nanoparticles between activated carbon pores, and then, different percentages of Fe3O4/AC/Diop nanocomposites were prepared by simple mixing of Fe3O4/AC composite and Diop in ethanol. Formation of Fe3O4/AC and Fe3O4/AC/Diop composites was characterised by FTIR, field emission scanning electron microscopy, BET, XRD and vibrating sample magnetometer analyses. Thermogravimetric analysis was used to show the adsorption capacity of the adsorbent more accurately. Effects of amount of adsorbent, initial pH, contact time and dye concentration on reactive green dye removal were also studied using central composite design. Optimal conditions for maximum reactive green KE-4BD dye adsorption (98.35%) process were as follows: pH= 4.90, adsorbent amount: 0.015 g, dye concentration: 37.17 mg/L and contact time: 10.12 min, respectively. In addition, the adsorption kinetics, thermodynamics and isotherms were examined. Adsorption isotherms (qmax: 344.827 mg/g), kinetics and thermodynamics were demonstrated that the sorption processes were better described by the pseudo-second-order equation and the Langmuir equation.  相似文献

In the present work, a cost-effective Indian jujube seeds derived activated carbon (IJSAC) prepared via o-phosphoric acid chemical activation, is studied for the sequestration of acriflavine (AF) and Victoria blue B (VB) from the aquatic environment. The activated carbon is characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, N2-adsorption/desorption isotherm, scanning electron microscopy techniques and point of zero-charge measurement. The specific surface area (SBET) of 571 m2/g with a pore radius of 22.45 Å specifies mesoporous nature of the IJSAC. The implication of operational conditions on the adsorption of both dyes onto IJSAC assessed by batch methodology, establish the optimal conditions as dosage (1.5 and 2.5 g/L), contact time (60 min), pH (8 and 10), and initial concentration (130 and 140 mg/L) for AF and VB uptake, respectively. The Freundlich adsorption isotherm model (R2 = 0.99) appropriates the equilibrium data suggesting multilayer adsorption onto heterogeneous surface sites, while pseudo-second order (R2 = 0.95–0.99) is the best fit kinetic model. The liquid film and intraparticle diffusion modelling demonstrate that the adsorption process of these dyes is governed by both the steps. Maximum Langmuir adsorption capacity is 113.6 mg/g for acriflavine and 92.78 mg/g for Victoria blue B. Thermodynamic studies indicate endothermic and spontaneous adsorption of dyes. The adsorption mechanism for the uptake of AF and VB by IJSAC most probably involves hydrogen bonding, electrostatic and π-π interactions. Based on its high adsorption capacity, relatively faster kinetics, and reusability, IJSAC can be perceived as a proficient and effective adsorbent for cationic dyes removal from the liquid waste.  相似文献

Activated carbon modified by ozone treatment was examined. The process was carried out in a glass reactor under a continuous flow of ozone through a bed of activated carbon for 15, 30, 60, 120, and 240 min. The modified and unmodified carbon materials were characterized by Raman spectroscopy and observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Thermogravimetric analysis was used to estimate the presence of oxygen groups in the carbon structure. The surface area and pore size distribution were examined by nitrogen adsorption method at 77 K. Moreover, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy was used to estimate the functional groups of modified activated carbon. The carbon content was estimated using the elemental analysis. The process of ozonation increases oxygen functionalities, thus the activated carbon was tested as electrodes for an electrochemical capacitor. The performance of an electrochemical capacitor was estimated by selected alternating (AC) and direct current (DC) methods in 1 M H2SO4, 1 M Na2SO4, and 6 M KOH electrolytes.

Wastes must be managed properly to avoid negative impacts that may result. Open burning of waste causes air pollution which is particularly hazardous. Flies, mosquitoes and rats are major problems in poorly managed surroundings. Uncollected wastes often cause unsanitary conditions and hinder the efforts to keep streets and open spaces in a clean and attractive condition. During final disposal methane is generated, it is much more effective than carbon dioxide as a greenhouse gas, leading to climate change. Therefore, this study describes the possible valorization of two waste streams into activated carbon (AC) with added value due to copyrolysis. High efficiency activated carbon was prepared by the copyrolysis of palm stem waste and lubricating oil waste. The effects of the lubricating oil waste to palm stem ratio and the carbonization temperature on the yield and adsorption capacity of the activated carbon were investigated. The results indicated that the carbon yield depended strongly on both the carbonization temperature and the lubricating oil to palm stem ratio. The efficiency of the adsorption of methylene blue (MB) onto the prepared carbons increased when the lubricating oil to palm stem ratio increased due to synergistic effect. The effects of pH, contact time, and the initial adsorbate concentration on the adsorption of methylene blue were investigated. The maximum adsorption capacity (128.89 mg/g) of MB occurred at pH 8.0. The MB adsorption kinetics were analyzed using pseudo-first order, pseudo-second order and intraparticle diffusion kinetic models. The results indicated that the adsorption of MB onto activated carbon is best described using a second order kinetic model. Adsorption data are well fitted with Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms. The thermodynamic parameters; ΔG°, ΔH° and ΔS° indicate that the adsorption is spontaneous and endothermic.  相似文献

In this study, activated carbon was blended with grape stalks powder to adsorb methylene blue (MB) dye with various concentrations from a wastewater. For this purpose, five independent variables involving pH (2–13), contact time (5–270 min), grape stalks powder dosage (0.1–10 g/l), methylene blue initial concentration (20–300 mg/l), and activated carbon dosage (0.1–10 g/l) for methylene blue adsorption were studied. The Central Composite Design (CCD) under Response Surface Methodology (RSM) was applied to estimate the independent variables effects on the methylene blue adsorption. The pseudo- first order, pseudo-second order, Elovich and intraparticle diffusion models were employed to study the adsorption kinetics and isotherm. The Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin and Dubinin-Radushkevich isotherm models were applied to investigate the adsorption isotherm. It was concluded that the intraparticle diffusion isotherm and pseudo-second order kinetic models could show the best results. Furthermore, some data such as physical adsorption (by analyzing FTR and applying some standard equations) and mean free energy (E) were discovered in this research. Finally, activated carbon blended with grape stalks powder as an effective bio-adsorbent for the methylene blue reduction from a wastewater was introduced.  相似文献

Activated carbon (AC) derived from gasified Glyricidia sepium woodchip (GGSWAC) was prepared using KOH and CO2 activation via microwave radiation technique to remove atenolol (ATN) from aqueous solution. The surface area (SBET) and total pore volume (TPV) of GGSWAC were 483.07 m2/g and 0.255 cm3, respectively. The n-BET model fits well with the isothermal data indicating a multilayer adsorption with the saturation capacity of 121, 143 and 163 mg/g at 30, 45 and 60 °C, respectively. The kinetic study showed that ATN adsorption followed Avrami model equation (R2  0.99). Based on the thermodynamic parameters, the adsorption of ATN onto GGSWAC was endothermic (ΔHS = 234.17 kJ/mol) in the first layer of adsorption and exothermic in the subsequent layer (ΔHL = −165.62 kJ/mol). The ATN adsorption was controlled by both diffusion and chemisorption. In continuous operation, the Thomas (R2 = 0.9822) and Yoon–Nelson (R2 = 0.9817) models successfully predicted the ATN adsorption.  相似文献

The performance of a microporous activated carbon prepared chemically from olive stones for removing Cu(II), Cd(II) and Pb(II) from single and binary aqueous solutions was investigated via the batch technique. The activated carbon sample was characterized using N2 adsorption–desorption isotherms, SEM, XRD, FTIR, and Boehm titration. The effect of initial pH and contact time were studied. Adsorption kinetic rates were found to be fast and kinetic experimental data fitted very well the pseudo-second-order equation. The adsorption isotherms fit the Redlich–Peterson model very well and maximum adsorption amounts of single metal ions solutions follow the trend Pb(II) > Cd(II) > Cu(II). The adsorption behavior of binary solution systems shows a relatively high affinity to Cu(II) at the activated carbon surface of the mixture with Cd(II) or Pb(II). An antagonistic competitive adsorption phenomenon was observed. Desorption experiments indicated that about 59.5% of Cu(II) and 23% of Cd(II) were desorbed using a diluted sulfuric acid solution.  相似文献

In this study, the aim was to produce the activated carbon from green coffee for use in liquid phase applications with adding zinc borate which was a boron chemical. Phosporic acid was chosen as the chemical activation material and different reaction parameters (percent of phosporic acid, amount of zinc borate) were tested during the process of chemical activation. The experimental sets were determined by using Taguchi optimization method and optimal conditions were obtained. Taguchi optimization method was preferred to reach optimum process parameters by using time and material in the most beneficial way. The effects of the process parameters (microwave drying time, temperature of carbonization and duration of carbonization) were investigated to determine the optimal sample. The characteristic properties of the obtained activated carbons were determined with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area analysis (BET), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. The samples of activated carbon produced were used for determination of the iodine number and the adsorption of heavy metal Cr (VI) ions from solution. Analysis and studies of adsorption showed that activated carbon was produced successfully. The activated carbon was evaluated in liquids phase applications and Langmuir isotherm was found more applicable and experimental data was proper with the second-order kinetic model.  相似文献
