The neodymium ferroborate NdFe3(BO3)4 undergoes an antiferromagnetic transition at T N = 30 K, which manifests itself as a λ-type anomaly in the temperature dependence of the specific heat C and as inflection points in the temperature dependences of the magnetic susceptibility χ measured at various directions of an applied magnetic field with respect to the crystallographic axes of the sample. Magnetic ordering occurs only in the subsystem of Fe3+ ions, whereas the subsystem of Nd3+ ions remains polarized by the magnetic field of the iron subsystem. A change in the population of the levels of the ground Kramers doublet of neodymium ions manifests itself as Schottky-type anomalies in the C(T) and χ(T) dependences at low temperatures. At low temperatures, the magnetic properties of single-crystal NdFe3(BO3)4 are substantially anisotropic, which is determined by the anisotropic contribution of the rare-earth subsystem to the magnetization. The experimental data obtained are used to propose a model for the magnetic structure of NdFe3(BO3)4.  相似文献

The temperature and magnetic-field dependences of the heat capacity, thermal conductivity, thermopower, and electrical resistivity of the Sm0.55Sr0.45MnO3.02 ceramic material are studied in the temperature range 77–300 K and in magnetic fields up to 26 kOe. It is revealed that the quantities under investigation exhibit anomalous behavior due to a magnetic phase transition at the Curie temperature TC. An increase in the magnetic field strength H leads to an increase in the Curie temperature TC and a jump in the heat capacity ΔCp at TC. The temperature dependences of the measured quantities are characterized by hystereses that are considerably suppressed in a magnetic field of 26 kOe and depend neither on the thermocycling range nor on the rate of change in the temperature. The thermal conductivity K at temperatures above TC shows unusual behavior for crystalline solids (dK/dT>0) and, upon the transition to a ferromagnetic state, drastically increases as a result of a decrease in the phonon scattering by Jahn-Teller distortions. It is demonstrated that the hystereses of the studied properties of the Sm0.55Sr0.45MnO3.02 manganite are caused by a jumpwise change in the critical temperature due to variations in the lattice parameters upon the magnetic phase transition.  相似文献

Magnetization M(H,T) in magnetic fields H up to 90 kOe and at temperatures 2 K ≤ T < T c (where Tc is the superconducting transition temperature), along with magnetic susceptibility χ(T) in the normal state T c < T < 400 K for optimally oxygen-doped samples of YBa2Cu3O6.92 with varying degrees of defects in the crystal structure, are studied to determine the influence of structural inhomogeneity on the electron systems characteristics of cuprate superconductors. It is shown that the existence of structural inhomogeneity of samples leads to the manifestation of peculiarities appropriate to pseudogap regime in their properties.  相似文献

The polarized spectra of absorption and magnetic circular dichroism in a TmAl3(BO3)4 single crystal are studied in the region of 3 H 63 F 4, 3 H 63 F 3, and 3 H 63 F 2 electronic transitions in the Tm3+ ion. The structure of the spectra is interpreted qualitatively. It is shown that the magnetic circular dichroism of the 3 H 63 F 4 transition is determined by the contribution from the splitting of the ground state, whereas the magnetic circular dichroism of the 3 H 63 F 3 transition is governed by the contribution from the splitting of an excited state in a trigonal crystal field.  相似文献

The transmission spectra of HoFe3(BO3) multiferroic single crystals are studied by optical Fourier-transform spectroscopy at temperatures of 1.7–423 K in polarized light in the spectral range 500–10 000 cm–1 with a resolution up to 0.1 cm–1. A new first-order structural phase transition close to the second-order transition is recorded at Tc = 360 K by the appearance of a new phonon mode at 976 cm–1. The reasons for considerable differences in Tc for different samples of holmium ferroborate are discussed. By temperature variations in the spectra of the f–f transitions in the Ho3+ ion, we studied two magnetic phase transitions, namely, magnetic ordering into an easy-plane structure as a second-order phase transition at TN = 39 K and spin reorientation from the ab plane to the c axis as a first-order phase transition at TSR = 4.7 ± 0.2 K. It is shown that erbium impurity in a concentration of 1 at % decreases the spin-reorientation transition temperature to TSR = 4.0 K.  相似文献

The magnetic properties of the Bi1 ? x Ln x FeO3 (Ln is a rare-earth ion), Bi1 ? x A x FeO3 ? x/2 (A is an alkali earth ion), and BiFe1 ? x Ti x O3 + δ solid solutions in magnetic fields up to 14 T have been studied. The concentration ranges of the existence of the ferroelectric phase described by the space group R3c have been determined. It is shown that the substitution of the rare-earth ions for the Bi3+ ions leads to a sharp decrease in the critical fields inducing the metamagnetic transition from a modulated antiferromagnetic state to a weakly ferromagnetic one; however, the modulated structure in the concentration range of the R3c phase is mainly retained. The substitution of the alkali earth ions (x ~ 0.1) for the bismuth ions leads to the total destruction of the modulated structure and to the implementation of the weakly ferromagnetic state within the R3c phase. A homogeneous weakly ferromagnetic state has been revealed when the Ti4+ ions (x = 0.1) are substituted for the Fe3+ ions in the ferroelectric R3c phase.  相似文献

Polycrystalline samples of SrFe2/3W1/3O3 (SFWO) ceramic were obtained by solid-phase reactions with subsequent sintering using conventional ceramic technology. X-ray diffraction analysis showed that at room temperature, the SFWO ceramic is single-phase and has a perovskite-type structure with tetragonal symmetry and parameters a = 3.941(9) Å, c = 3.955(6) Å, and c/a = 1.0035. In studying the magnetic properties and the Mössbauer effect in SFWO ceramics, it is found that the material is a ferrimagnet, and the iron ions are only in the valence state of Fe3+. It is suggested that in the temperature range of T = 150–210°C, a smeared phase transition from a cubic (paraelectric) phase to a tetragonal (ferroelectric) phase takes place in SFWO with decreasing temperature.  相似文献

The temperature dependences of the intense magnetocaloric effect ΔT AD(T, H) and the heat capacity C p (T) of the (La0.4Eu0.6)0.7Pb0.3MnO3 manganite are directly measured using adiabatic calorimetry. The experimental dependences ΔT AD(T) are in satisfactory agreement with those calculated from the data on the behavior of the magnetization. The factors responsible for the absence of an anomaly in the experimental temperature dependence of the heat capacity C p (T) in the range of the magnetic phase transition are discussed.  相似文献

The magnetic, magnetoelectric, and magnetoelastic properties of a PrFe3(BO3)4 single crystal and the phase transitions induced in this crystal by the magnetic field are studied both experimentally and theoretically. Unlike the previously investigated ferroborates, this material is characterized by a singlet ground state of the rare-earth ion. It is found that, below T N = 32 K, the magnetic structure of the crystal in the absence of the magnetic field is uniaxial (lc), while, in a strong magnetic field Hc (H cr ~ 43 kOe at T = 4.2 K), a Fe3+ spin reorientation to the basal plane takes place. The reorientation is accompanied by anomalies in magnetization, magnetostriction, and electric polarization. The threshold field values determined in the temperature interval 2–32 K are used to plot an H-T phase diagram. The contribution of the Pr3+ ion ground state to the parameters under study is revealed, and the influence of the praseodymium ion on the magnetic and magnetoelectric properties of praseodymium ferroborate is analyzed.  相似文献

The crystal structure and magnetic properties of the Bi1 ? x Ca x Fe1 ? x/2Nb x/2O3 system were studied. It is shown that, at x ≤ 0.15, the unit-cell symmetry of solid solutions is rhombohedral (space group R3c). Solid solutions with x ≥ 0.3 have an orthorhombic unit cell (space group Pbnm). The rhombohedral compositions are antiferromagnetic, while the orthorhombic compositions exhibit a small spontaneous magnetization due to Dzyaloshinski?-Moriya interaction. In CaFe0.5Nb0.5O3, the Fe3+ and Nb5+ ions are partially ordered and the unit cell is monoclinic (space group P21/n). In the concentration range 0.15 < x < 0.30, a two-phase state (R3c + Pbnm) is revealed.  相似文献

High pressure evolution of structural, vibrational and magnetic properties of La0.75Ca0.25MnO3 was studied by means of X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy up to 39 GPa, and neutron diffraction up to 7.5 GPa. The stability of different magnetic ground states, orbital configurations and structural modifications were investigated by LDA + U electronic structure calculations. A change of octahedral tilts corresponding to the transformation of orthorhombic crystal structure from the Pnma symmetry to the Immaone occurs above P ~ 6 GPa. At the same time, the evolution of the orthorhombic lattice distortion evidences an appearance of the e g d x² ? z² orbital polarization at high pressures. The magnetic order in La0.75Ca0.25MnO3 undergoes a continuous transition from the ferromagnetic 3D metallic (FM) ground state to the A-type antiferromagnetic (AFM) state of assumedly 2D pseudo-metallic character under pressure, that starts at about 1 GPa and extends possibly to 20–30 GPa.  相似文献

Electrical, resonant, and magnetic properties of intercalated copper chromium disulfide CuCrS2 are studied. It is established that CuCrS2 is an antiferromagnetic semiconductor with Néel temperature TN=40.7 K and an effective magnetic moment of 4.3µB. Anomalies in the electrical, magnetic, and resonant properties of CuCrS2 are found at Tc=110 K, which suggest an electron transition accompanied by alteration of the valences of the 3d-metal ions.  相似文献

The temperature dependences of the electrical resistivity ρ(T) and the ac magnetic susceptibility χ(T, H = 0) are thoroughly investigated for a perovskite-like lanthanum manganite, namely, La0.85Sr0.15MnO3, which is preliminarily exposed to neutron irradiation with a fluence F = 2 × 1019 cm?2 and then annealed at different temperatures ranging from 200 to 1000°C. The results of the electrical resistance measurements demonstrate that neutron irradiation of the samples leads to the disappearance of the low-temperature insulating phase. As the annealing temperature increases, the insulating phase is not restored and the manganite undergoes a transformation into a metallic phase. Analysis of the magnetic properties shows that, under irradiation, the ferromagnet-paramagnet phase transition temperature TC decreases and the magnetic susceptibility is reduced significantly. With an increase in the annealing temperature, the phase transition temperature TC and magnetic susceptibility χ(T, H = 0) increase and gradually approach values close to those for an unirradiated sample. This striking difference in the behavior of the electrical and magnetic properties of the radiation-disordered La0.85Sr0.15MnO3 manganite is explained qualitatively.  相似文献

A symmetry analysis of the possible magnetic structures of Er5Ge3 in the ground state is performed using the results of measurements of elastic magnetic neutron scattering at 4.2 K. It is shown that the minimum discrepancy factor R m ≈9.5% corresponds to a modulated collinear magnetic structure in which the magnetic moments of erbium atoms are oriented along the a 3 axis of the unit cell of the crystal structure and induce an antiferromagnetic longitudinal spin wave (AFLSW). The magnetic structure is characterized by the wave vector k=2π(0, 0, μ /a 3) (where μ≈0.293) and the modulation period λ≈3.413a 3. The magnetic ordering temperature T N ≈38 K is determined from the temperature dependence of the intensity of magnetic reflections. __________ Translated from Fizika Tverdogo Tela, Vol. 45, No. 9, 2003, pp. 1653–1659. The structural and magnetic properties of the mesoporous systems based on silicon dioxide with a regular hexagonal arrangement of pores several microns in length and several nanometers in diameter, which are filled with iron compound nanofilaments in various chemical states, are studied in detail. The studies are performed using the following mutually complementary methods: transmission electron microscopy, SQUID magnetometry, electron spin resonance, Mössbauer spectroscopy, polarized neutron small-angle diffraction, and synchrotron radiation diffraction. It is shown that the iron nanoparticles in pores are mainly in the γ phase of Fe2O3 with a small addition of the α phase and atomic iron clusters. The effective magnetic field acting on a nanofilament from other nanofilaments is 11 mT and has a dipole nature, the ferromagnetic–paramagnetic transition temperature is in the range 76–94 K depending on the annealing temperature of the samples, and the temperature that corresponds to the change in the magnetic state of the iron oxide nanofilaments is T ≈ 50–60 K at H = 0 and T ≈ 80 K at H = 300 mT. It is also shown that the magnetization reversal of an array of nanofilaments is caused by the magnetostatic interaction between nanofilaments at the fields that are lower than the saturation field.  相似文献

Magnetic, elastic, magnetoelastic, transport, and magnetotransport properties of the Eu0.55Sr0.45MnO3 ceramics have been studied. A break was detected in the temperature dependence of electrical resistivity ρ(T) near the temperature of the magnetic phase transformation (41 K), with the material remaining an insulator down to the lowest measurement temperature reached (ρ=106 Ω cm at 4.2 K). In the interval 4.2≤T≤50 K, the isotherms of the magnetization, volume magnetostriction, and ρ were observed to undergo jumps at the critical field HC1, which decreases with increasing T. For 50≤T≤120 K, the jumps in the above curves persist, but the pattern of the curves changes and HC1 grows with increasing T. The magnetoresistance Δρ/ρ = (ρ H H=0)/ρ H is positive for H<HC1 and passes through a maximum at 41 K, where Δρ/ρ = 6%. For H>HC1, the magnetoresistance is negative, passes through a minimum near 41 K, and reaches a colossal value of 3×105 % at H=45 kOe. The volume magnetostriction is negative and attains a giant value of 4.5×10?4atH=45 kOe. The observed properties are assigned to the existence of three phases in Eu0.55Sr0.45MnO3, namely, a ferromagnetic (FM) phase, in which carriers are concentrated because of the gain in s-d exchange energy, and two antiferromagnetic (AFM) phases of the A and CE types. Their fractional volumes at low temperatures were estimated to be as follows: ~3% of the sample volume is occupied by the FM phase; ~67%, by the CE-type AFM phase; and ~30%, by the A-type AFM phase.  相似文献

The thermopower, S, magnetothermopower, ΔS/S, resistivity, ρ, and magnetoresistivity, Δρ/ρ, depending on the temperature T and magnetic field H, have been studied in an Nd0.5Sr0.5MnO3 single crystal consisting of three types of clusters: an antiferromagnetic CE-type with charge-orbital ordering (below the Neel temperature TNCE ~ 145 K) and an A-type with TNA ~ 220 K; a ferromagnetic at 234 ≤ T ≤ 252 K, and a ferromagnetic metal phase below the Curie temperature TC = 248 K. The thermopower was found to be negative, indicating the dominance of the electronic type of conductivity. In the S(T) curves, a sharp minimum is observed in the temperature range of 100 K ≤ T ≤ 133 K, close to TNCE, where the absolute S value attains 53 μV/K. With a further increase in temperature, the absolute S value decreases rapidly; at 200 K it is equal to 7 μV/K. It then slightly increases, reaching its maximum value of 15 μV/K at a temperature of 254 K, which is close to TC. The absolute thermopower decreased under the influence of the magnetic field; i.e., a negative magnetothermopower occurs. In {ΔS/S}(T) curves, a sharp minimum is observed at T = 130 K close to TNCE, where the magnetothermopower reaches a huge value of ~45% at H = 13.23 kOe. A broad minimum in the {ΔS/S}(T) curves is observed near the Curie temperature and its value is also high, viz., ~15% in the maximum measuring magnetic field of 13.23 kOe. The extremely high magnetothermopower values mean that the charge-orbital ordered nanoclusters or ferron type make the main contribution to the thermopower of the entire sample. The behavior of the ρ(T) and {Δρ/ρ}(T) curves is similar to that of the S(T) and {ΔS/S}(T) dependencies, which is in agreement with this conclusion.  相似文献

Magnetoelectric interactions have been investigated in a single crystal of gadolinium iron borate GdFe3(BO3)4, whose macroscopic symmetry is characterized by the crystal class 32. Using the results of this study, the interplay of magnetic and electric orderings occurring in the system has been experimentally revealed and theoretically substantiated. The electric polarization and magnetostriction of this material that arise in spin-reorientation transitions induced by a magnetic field have been investigated experimentally. For Hc and Hc, H-T phase diagrams have been constructed, and a strict correlation between the changes in the magnetoelectric and magnetoelastic properties in the observed phase transitions has been ascertained. A mechanism of specific noncollinear antiferroelectric ordering at the structural phase transition point was proposed to interpret the magnetoelectric behavior of the system within the framework of the symmetry approach in the entire temperature range. This ordering provides the conservation of the crystal class of the system when the temperature decreases to the antiferroelectric ordering point. The expressions that have been obtained for the magnetoelectric and magnetoelastic energy describe reasonably well the behavior of gadolinium iron borate observed experimentally.  相似文献

Tm x Cu3V4O12, a perovskite-like oxide (space group, Im-3; Z = 2; a = 7.279–7.293 Å) containing vacancies in its cationic sublattice, was obtained barothermally (P = 7.0–9.0 GPa, t = 1000–1100°C) for the first time. The temperature dependences on the electrical resistivity (10–300 K) and the magnetic susceptibility (0–300 K) were investigated. It was shown that the oxide Tm x Cu3V4O12 is characterized by metal-type conductivity and paramagnetic properties.  相似文献

The unit cell parameters a, b, and c of [N(CH3)4]2ZnCl4 have been measured by x-ray diffraction in the temperature range 80–293 K. Temperature dependences of the thermal expansion coefficients αa, αb, and αc along the principal crystallographic axes and of the unit cell thermal expansion coefficient αV were determined. It is shown that the a=f(T), b=f(T), and c=f(T) curves exhibit anomalies in the form of jumps at phase transition temperatures T1=161 K and T2=181 K and that the phase transition occurring at T3=276 K manifests itself in the a=f(T) and b=f(T) curves as a break. A slight anisotropy in the coefficient of thermal expansion of the crystal was revealed. The phase transitions occurring at T1=161 K and T2=181 K in [N(CH3)4]2ZnCl4 were established to be first-order.  相似文献
