Charged particle multiplicity distributions and pseudo-rapidity density distributions from16O induced nuclear collisions at 200 and 60A GeV are presented. The data were taken, using a minimumbias trigger, with the WA80 set-up at the CERN SPS. In this presentation we focus on how the yield of charged particles depends on the projectile energy, the mass number of the target nucleus and the energy measured in a uranium-plastic sampling calorimeter covering angles close to zero degrees. The data are compared to simulations from the event generator FRITIOF.  相似文献

The production of charged hadrons with high pT in αα collisions at √s=126 GeV and pp collisions at √s=31 and 63 GeV is compared, and the structure of the events associated with the high-pT particles is studied. The probability of finding associated particles close to the trigger particle increases strongly between √s=31 and 63 GeV for pp collisions. For pT>2.5GeV/c the αα/pp cross section ratio at the same energy per nucleon is measured to be 18.7 ± 2.0, to be compared with A2 = 16, and a higher associated multiplicity is observed for αα.  相似文献

The dependence of the relative populations of particle unbound states on the associated charged particle multiplicity and on the total kinetic energy of the two decay products was investigated for 40Ar induced reactions on 197Au at E/A = 60 MeV. The measurements indicate that the relative populations exhibit little sensitivity to the violence of the collision and to the time of emission. Implications of these results on the dynamics of the reaction are discussed.  相似文献

Events with a single highp T charged particle were recorded with the Split-Field-Magnet Detector in proton-proton collisions at the CERN-ISR. In the jet opposite to the trigger region the densities of photons and reconstructed neutral pions were measured with a liquid argon shower counter. Scaled momentum distributions of these particles are given and compared with those of charged pions. The spectra of charged and neutral pions coincide. The production cross-section of neutrals in the away jet shows no dependence on the flavour of the trigger particle.  相似文献

The associated charged particle multiplicities of high-pTπ0 and single-photon events were measured at the CERN intersecting storage rings using lead/liquid-argon calorimeters and a scintillation counter array placed around the intersection region. The average multiplicity on the trigger side for the single-photon events was found to be significantly lower than that for the π0 events. The away-side multiplicity for both π0 and single-photon events increases with the trigger particle pT, but, at a fixed pT, the direct photon sample was found to have a slightly lower average multiplicity. The differences in the event structure can be explained if a large fraction of the single photons are produced via qg → γq constituent scattering.  相似文献

Results from 16O induced nuclear interactions with C, Cu, Ag and Au targets at 60 and 200 A GeV are presented. Multiplicity and pseudorapidity-density distributions of charged particles and their dependence on the target mass number are reported. The increase in the particle density with increasing centrality, characterized by the energy flux at zero degrees, is investigated. Comparisons with the Fritiof model reveal systematic differences.  相似文献

Multiplicity and pseudorapidity distributions have been measured for32S+Al, Cu, Ag and Au at 200A GeV. The widths of the pseudorapidity distributions increase from central to peripheral collisions. The main contribution is assumed to come from the increasing fraction of charged particles stemming from the fragmentation of the target for peripheral collisions as compared to central collisions. On the average 170–180 charged particles per unit of pseudorapidity are attained for the most central32S+Au events at the maximum of the distribution. The target dependence of the yield of charged particles for central collisions is investigated. In the target rapidity region the yield is directly proportional to the target mass. The transverse energy per charged particle has been studied as a function of centrality and pseudorapidity. The experimental results are compared to the results from the Monte-Carlo model VENUS 3.11 which includes rescattering among secondaries. A comparison between different centrality triggers is made.  相似文献

Results from the multiplicity distributions of inclusive photons and charged particles, scaling of particle multiplicities, event-by-event multiplicity fluctuations, and charged-neutral fluctuations in 158A GeV Pb+Pb collisions are presented and discussed. A scaling of charged particle multiplicity as N part 1.07±0.05 and photos as N part 1.12±0.03 have been observed, indicating violation of naive wounded nucleon model. The analysis of localized charged-neutral fluctuation indicates a model-independent demonstration of non-statistical fluctuations in both charged particles and photons in limited azimuthal regions. However, no correlated charged-neutral fluctuations are observed. For the WA98 Collaboration  相似文献

Measurements ofK s 0 , Λ and \(\bar \Lambda \) production in π? nucleus (C, Cu, Pb) interactions are presented. The experiment was carried out with the streamer chamber spectrometer RISK using a π? beam of ~40 GeV/c and a trigger requiring a secondary charged particle with transverse momentum above 1.1 GeV/c. Production cross sections, relative production rates and distributions of Feynmanx and transverse momentum squared as well as correlations between theV 0 and the trigger particle are presented. The results are compared and found to be in agreement withK s 0 , Λ and \(\bar \Lambda \) data from untriggered π? p and π? C interactions, except for the relative production rate of antilambdas which is about to times larger in high-p t collisions. Our results can be well interpreted within the dual topological unitarization model.  相似文献

The inclusive and semi-inclusive neutral strange particle cross sections are used to estimate semi-inclusive charged strange particle cross sections in antiproton-proton interactions of the pairsK 0 or \(\Lambda /\bar \Lambda \) with a charged strange particle and of double charged strange particles. Their sums are given as well.  相似文献

In Dirac's version of classical electrodynamics with the gauge Aµ Aµ = k2, the vector potential may, following Dirac's suggestion, be interpreted as the velocity 4-vector of an electromagnetic ether. It is shown that the inertial forces generated by this ether are identical with the Lorentz force acting on a charged particle.  相似文献

The possibility of converting a Reissner-Nordström black hole into a naked singularity by means of test particle accretion is considered. The dually charged Reissner-Nordström metric describes a black hole only when M2 > Q3 + P2. The test particle equations of motion are shown to allow test particles with arbitrarily large magnetic charge/mass ratios to fall radially into electrically charged black holes. To determine the nature of the final state (black hole or naked singularity) an exact solution of Einstein's equations representing a spherical shell of magnetically charged dust falling into an electrically charged black hole is studied. Naked singularities are never formed so long as the weak energy condition is obeyed by the infalling matter. The differences between the spherical shell model and an infalling point test particle are examined and discussed.  相似文献

We present a study of the final state structure in proton-proton collisions (√s = 53 GeV) where a large transverse momentum π0 (pt > 2 GeV/c) is produced at an angle of 90°. Charged secondaries have been detected and momentum analysed in the split field magnet detector at the CERN Intersecting Storage Rings. The large angular coverage of this detector extends over ±2.5 units of rapidity and ±30° of azimuth with respect to the trigger π0, both towards and away from it. In each of these directions, where we observe similar strong correlations, we present charged particle distributions, in rapidity and momentum. In the hemisphere containing the trigger π0 we have measured the cross section for inclusive production of large transverse momentum ?± mesons. In the opposite hemisphere the data exhibit several features predicted by hard scattering quark-parton models: coplanarity and short-range rapidity correlation for the large transverse momentum secondaries as well as a transverse momentum sharing distribution similar to that observed in deep inelastic electro-production and in e+e? collisions.  相似文献

Cross sections for [(n, d) + (n, n′p) + (n, pn)] reactions induced by 14.7 ± 0.3 MeV neutrons on 44Ca, 49Ti, 50Cr, 67, 68Zn, 92Zr and 97, 98Mo have been measured by the activation technique using enriched isotopes as target materials, modern radiochemical separations and high-resolution counting methods. A brief summary of the literature data and our own earlier measurements is given. Our activation data are generally in agreement with those deduced from emitted charged particle characterisation. Some systematic trends in the activation cross-section data were analysed. Similar to other (n, charged particle) reactions, the [(n, d) + (n, n′p) + (n, pn)] reaction cross section decreases as a function of (N?Z)/A; the data, however, fall on two curves, one for nuclei with neutron separation energies (Sn higher than the proton separation energies (Sp) and the other for nuclei with Sn < Sp. For nuclei with Sn ? Sp the (n, n′p) process is very important. Detailed Hauser-Feshbach calculations show that in general contributions of statistical processes to the (n, d) reaction cross section are very small.  相似文献

The density of charged particles near a single highp T trigger particle in proton-proton collisions has been studied with the SFM detector at the CERN-ISR. It is shown that:—the secondaries cluster in a jet-like manner about the trigger particle; —the momentum distributions in this trigger jet can be unambiguously separated from the spectator background distributions;—the momentum distributions in this trigger jet can be unambiguously separated from the spectator background distributions;—the momentum component transverse to the jet direction is exponentially damped;—the width of the transverse distributions increases with the momentum component along the jet;—the fractional longitudinal momentum density depends strongly on the trigger transverse momentum and scales with \(x_T = {{2p_T } \mathord{\left/ {\vphantom {{2p_T } {\sqrt s }}} \right. \kern-0em} {\sqrt s }}\) . All these findings support the hard constituent scattering origin of highp T hadrons.  相似文献

In an experiment performed with the SFM facility at the CERN ISR, we have studied events with a large-pT particle (π+, π-, K-, p) produced at polar angle settings of 20° and 45°. The longitudinal momentum distributions of leading fragments in the spectator jet of the same rapidity hemisphere as the trigger are strongly correlated to the nature of the trigger particle involved. These distributions are compared with predictions from dimensional counting rules, if parton scattering via vector gluon exchange is assumed for the large-pT process. Given slight modifications of the original counting rules, we observe a fair agreement. As to the fastest particle (jet leader) in the “away” jet, its average charge is about 13 independent of the charge of the trigger; this value is expected for the case of three valence quarks participating in the hard scattering process. From the analysis of the trigger jet we find ?0/π+ and ?0/π- production ratios near unity at a value of the transverse momentum of about 2 GeV/c.  相似文献

A large solid-angle apparatus consisting of a superconducting solenoid magnet, cylindrical drift chambers and two arrays of lead-glass counters was used to examine particles associated with a high transverse momentum trigger in p-p collisions with three √s values at the CERN ISR. The trigger was given by energy deposition in lead-glass arrays centred at 90°. The trigger transverse momentum range covered was 3 < pT trig < 11 GeVc. Results are given for pout for both individual charged particles, and also for the sum of charged particle momenta in the hemisphere opposite to the trigger. Mean values are then deduced for the parton transverse momentum kT, and for the jet fragmentation momentum jT.  相似文献

Finite energy sum rules are evaluated for the amplitudes corresponding to the exchange of theA 1 and its exchange degenerate partner, theZ 1 (J PC=2??), in charged pion photoproduction. Both sum rules are roughly compatible with theoretical estimates of these exchanges, and a definiteA 1 signal found.  相似文献

Hadron jet at lowp T is generated by Monte Carlo method using several models including our quark cascade model in which the recombination mechanism is taken into account. The predicted results from those models on π+? ratio,K + /K ? ratio, π± meson spectra and π+? ratio under π± meson and Λ particle trigger, ratio between invariant two particle cross-section (p→π + ? )/(p→π ? ? are compared with the experimental data. The effects of the asymmetric initialu- andd-quark distributions the scaling and its violation of particle spectra and particle ratios under the other particle trigger are discussed. Predictions from our recombination model fit to the experimental data fairly well.  相似文献

In this paper, corrected entropy of a class of BTZ black holes, include charge and rotation, studied. We obtain corrected Bekenstein-Hawking entropy and find that effect of charge viewed at order A ?2, and effect of rotation viewed at order A ?6, therefore Q and J don’t have contribution in corrected entropy lower than the second order. We also write the first law of black hole thermodynamics for the case of charged rotating BTZ black hole.  相似文献
