A Quillen Model Structure for Bicategories   总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0
Stephen Lack 《K-Theory》2004,33(3):185-197
A cofibrantly generated Quillen model structure on the category Bicats, of bicategories and strict homomorphisms is constructed. Another such structure on the category 2-Cat of 2-categories and 2-functors is described, correcting the construction given in an earlier paper. The fully faithful inclusion of 2-Cat, in Bicats, is shown to be the right adjoint part of a Quillen equivalence.  相似文献

Categorical structures and their pseudomaps rarely form locally presentable 2-categories in the sense of Cat-enriched category theory. However, we show that if the categorical structure in question is sufficiently weak (such as the structure of monoidal, but not strict monoidal, categories) then the 2-category in question is accessible. Furthermore, we explore the flexible limits that such 2-categories possess and their interaction with filtered colimits.  相似文献

The category of small 2-categories has two monoidal structures due to John Gray: one biclosed and one closed. We propose a formalisation of the construction of the right internal and internal homs of these monoidal structures.  相似文献

It is a key property of bialgebras that their modules have a natural tensor product. More precisely, a bialgebra over k can be characterized as an algebra H whose category of modules is a monoidal category in such a way that the underlying functor to the category of k-vector spaces is monoidal (i.e. preserves tensor products in a coherent way). In the present paper we study a class of algebras whose module categories are also monoidal categories; however, the underlying functor to the category of k-vector spaces fails to be monoidal. Instead, there is a suitable underlying functor to the category of B-bimodules over a k-algebra B which is monoidal with respect to the tensor product over B. In other words, we study algebras L such that for two L-modules V and W there is a natural tensor product, which is the tensor product VBW over another k-algebra B, equipped with an L-module structure defined via some kind of comultiplication of L. We show that this property is characteristic for ×B-bialgebras as studied by Sweedler (for commutative B) and Takeuchi. Our motivating example arises when H is a Hopf algebra and A an H-Galois extension of B. In this situation, one can construct an algebra L:=L(A,H), which was previously shown to be a Hopf algebra if B=k. We show that there is a structure theorem for relative Hopf bimodules in the form of a category equivalence . The category on the left hand side has a natural structure of monoidal category (with the tensor product over A) which induces the structure of a monoidal category on the right hand side. The ×B-bialgebra structure of L that corresponds to this monoidal structure generalizes the Hopf algebra structure on L(A,H) known for B=k. We prove several other structure theorems involving L=L(A,H) in the form of category equivalences .  相似文献

The notion of geometric nerve of a 2-category (Street, J. Pure Appl. Algebra 49 (1987), 283–335) provides a full and faithful functor if regarded as defined on the category of 2-categories and lax 2-functors. Furthermore, lax 2-natural transformations between lax 2-functors give rise to homotopies between the corresponding simplicial maps. These facts allow us to prove a representation theorem of the general non-abelian cohomology of groupoids (classifying non-abelian extensions of groupoids) by means of homotopy classes of simplicial maps.Mathematics Subject Classifications (2000) 18D05, 18G30, 55P15.  相似文献

This paper develops the foundations of a simplicial theory of weak ω-categories, which builds upon the insights originally expounded by Ross Street in his 1987 paper on oriented simplices. The resulting theory of weak complicial sets provides a common generalisation of the theories of (strict) ω-categories, Kan complexes and Joyal's quasi-categories. We generalise a number of results due to the current author with regard to complicial sets and strict ω-categories to provide an armoury of well behaved technical devices, such as joins and Gray tensor products, which will be used to study the weak ω-category theory of these structures in a series of companion papers. In particular, we establish their basic homotopy theory by constructing a Quillen model structure on the category of stratified simplicial sets whose fibrant objects are the weak complicial sets. As a simple corollary of this work we provide an independent construction of Joyal's model structure on simplicial sets for which the fibrant objects are the quasi-categories.  相似文献

In this paper we prove that a morphism between schemes or stacks naturally corresponds to a symmetric monoidal functor between stable $\infty $ -categories of quasi-coherent complexes. It can be viewed as a derived analogue of Tannaka duality. As a consequence, we deduce that an algebraic stack satisfying a certain condition can be recovered from the symmetric monoidal stable $\infty $ -category of quasi-coherent complexes with tensor operation.  相似文献

This paper contains some contributions to the study of the relationship between 2-categories and the homotopy types of their classifying spaces. Mainly, generalizations are given of both Quillen’s Theorem B and Thomason’s Homotopy Colimit Theorem to 2-functors.  相似文献

One of the open problems in higher category theory is the systematic construction of the higher dimensional analogues of the Gray tensor product. In this paper we begin to adapt the machinery of globular operads (Batanin, Adv Math 136:39–103, 1998) to this task. We present a general construction of a tensor product on the category of n-globular sets from any normalised (n + 1)-operad A, in such a way that the algebras for A may be recaptured as enriched categories for the induced tensor product. This is an important step in reconciling the globular and simplicial approaches to higher category theory, because in the simplicial approaches one proceeds inductively following the idea that a weak (n + 1)-category is something like a category enriched in weak n-categories. In this paper we reveal how such an intuition may be formulated in terms of globular operads.  相似文献

The projective tensor product in a category of topological R-modules (where R is a topological ring) can be defined in Top, the category of topological spaces, by the same universal property used to define the tensor product of R-modules in Set. In this article, we extend this definition to an arbitrary topological category X and study how the Cartesian closedness of X is related to the monoidal closedness of the category of R-module objects in X. We exhibit the cartesian differential categories of Blute, Cockett and Seely as a particular kind of enriched category. The base for the enrichment is the category of commutative monoids—or in a straightforward generalisation, the category of modules over a commutative rig k. However, the tensor product on this category is not the usual one, but rather a warping of it by a certain monoidal comonad Q. Thus the enrichment base is not a monoidal category in the usual sense, but rather a skew monoidal category in the sense of Szlachányi. Our first main result is that cartesian differential categories are the same as categories with finite products enriched over this skew monoidal base. The comonad Q involved is, in fact, an example of a differential modality. Differential modalities are a kind of comonad on a symmetric monoidal k-linear category with the characteristic feature that their co-Kleisli categories are cartesian differential categories. Using our first main result, we are able to prove our second one: that every small cartesian differential category admits a full, structure-preserving embedding into the cartesian differential category induced by a differential modality (in fact, a monoidal differential modality on a monoidal closed category—thus, a model of intuitionistic differential linear logic). This resolves an important open question in this area.

We generalise the usual notion of fibred category; first to fibred 2-categories and then to fibred bicategories. Fibred 2-categories correspond to 2-functors from a 2-category into 2Cat. Fibred bicategories correspond to trihomomorphisms from a bicategory into Bicat. We describe the Grothendieck construction for each kind of fibration and present a few examples of each. Fibrations in our sense, between bicategories, are closed under composition and are stable under equiv-comma. The free such fibration on a homomorphism is obtained by taking an oplax comma along an identity.  相似文献

There exist two equivalent small categories associated to an inverse monoid which reflect its divisorial structure, called its D-categories. It is well known the relationship between the Green's relation D and the structure, of certain subsemigroups, of an inverse monoid. In this work, an analogous result is established between the Green's relation J and the D-categories of those subsemigroups. They are also given equivalent conditions for the equivalence of the D-categories of two inverse monoids and likewise equivalent conditions for the isomorphism of two inverse monoids in terms of its D-categories. It is proved that for many important classes of inverse monoids the multiplicative structure is determined by the associated category. On the contrary, a sufficient condition to obtain families of counterexamples to the above is provided and three examples are explicitely exhibited.  相似文献

Models for parallel and concurrent processes lead quite naturally to the study of monoidal categories (Inform. Comput. 88 (2) (1990) 105). In particular a category Tree of trees, equipped with a non-symmetric tensor product, interpreted as a concatenation, seems to be very useful to represent (local) behavior of non-deterministic agents able to communicate (Enriched Categories for Local and Interaction Calculi, Lecture Notes in Computer Science, Vol. 283, Springer, Berlin, 1987, pp. 57-70). The category Tree is also provided with a coproduct (corresponding to choice between behaviors) and the tensor product is only partially distributive w.r.t. it, in order to preserve non-determinism. Such a category can be properly defined as the category of the (finite) symmetric categories on a free monoid, when this free monoid is considered as a 2-category. The monoidal structure is inherited from the concatenation in the monoid. In this paper we prove that for every alphabet A, Tree(A), the category of finite A-labeled trees is equivalent to the free category which is generated by A and enjoys the afore-mentioned properties. The related category Beh(A), corresponding to global behaviors is also proven to be equivalent to the free category which is generated by A and enjoys a smaller set of properties.  相似文献

We endow the homotopy category of well generated (pretriangulated) dg categories with a tensor product satisfying a universal property. The resulting monoidal structure is symmetric and closed with respect to the cocontinuous RHom of dg categories (in the sense of Toën [32]). We give a construction of the tensor product in terms of localisations of dg derived categories, making use of the enhanced derived Gabriel-Popescu theorem [27]. Given a regular cardinal α, we define and construct a tensor product of homotopically α-cocomplete dg categories and prove that the well generated tensor product of α-continuous derived dg categories (in the sense of [27]) is the α-continuous dg derived category of the homotopically α-cocomplete tensor product. In particular, this shows that the tensor product of well generated dg categories preserves α-compactness.  相似文献

We show that the monoidal product on the stable homotopy category of spectra is essentially unique. This strengthens work of this author with Schwede on the uniqueness of models of the stable homotopy theory of spectra. Also, the equivalences constructed here give a unified construction of the known equivalences of the various symmetric monoidal categories of spectra (S-modules, -spaces, orthogonal spectra, simplicial functors) with symmetric spectra. As an application we show that with an added assumption about underlying model structures Margolis' axioms uniquely determine the stable homotopy category of spectra up to monoidal equivalence.  相似文献
