Norming subspaces are studied widely in the duality theory of Banach spaces. These subspaces are applied to the Borel and Baire classifications of the inverse operators. The main result of this article asserts that the dual of a Banach space X contains a norming subspace isomorphic to l1 provided that the following two conditions are satisfied: (1) X* contains a subspace isomorphic to l1; and (2) X* contains a separable norming subspace.  相似文献

This paper establishes the computational complexity status for a problem of deciding on the quality of a committee. Starting with individual preferences over alternatives, we analyse when it can be determined efficiently if a given committee CC satisfies a weak (resp. strong) Condorcet criterion–i.e., if CC is at least as good as (resp. better than) every other committee in a pairwise majority comparison. Scoring functions used in classic voting rules are adapted for these comparisons. In particular, we draw the sharp separation line between computationally tractable and intractable instances with respect to different voting rules. Finally, we show that deciding if there exists a committee which satisfies the weak (resp. strong) Condorcet criterion is computationally hard.  相似文献

We show that there is a computable procedure which, given an ??-sentence ${\varphi}$ in the language of the partially ordered sets with a top element 1 and a bottom element 0, computes whether ${\varphi}$ is true in the Medvedev degrees of ${\Pi^0_1}$ classes in Cantor space, sometimes denoted by ${\mathcal{P}_s}$ .  相似文献

The paper gives an estimate for the Hilbert space distance from a ?-optimal point to the minimum point of a convex, closed function, the subdifferential of which is a strongly monotone operator in its definition domain. Also, the Hausdorff distance between the ?-optimal points of the Tikhonov functions in the non-correct problems of mathematical programming is estimated.  相似文献

We study 1-complemented subspaces of the sequence spaces 1 andc 0. In 1, 1-complemented subspaces of codimensionn are those which can be obtained as intersection ofn 1-complemented hyperplanes. Let Z1=X1/E1 and Z2=X2/E2, where X1 and X2 are 1-spaces, E1cX1, E2c X2. In this paper we study the following questions: 1) under what conditions are Z1 and Z2 isomorphic; 2) under what conditions is Z1 isomorphic to a complemented subspace of Z2. Let (K) be a field. Given an arbitrary linear subspace V of Mn(K) of codimension less than n-1, a classical result states that V generates the (K)-algebra Mn(K). Here, we strengthen this statement in three ways: we show that Mn(K) is spanned by the products of the form AB with (A,B)∈V2; we prove that every matrix in Mn(K) can be decomposed into a product of matrices of V; finally, when V is a linear perplane of Mn(K) and n>2, we show that every matrix in Mn(K) is a product of two elements of V.  相似文献

Assuming that 2Nn < 2Nn+1 forn < ω, we prove that everyψL ω_1, ω has many non-isomorphic models of powerN n for somen>0or has models in all cardinalities. We can conclude that every such Ψ has at least 2 N 1 non-isomorphic uncountable models. As for the more vague problem of classification, restricting ourselves to the atomic models of some countableT (we can reduce general cases to this) we find a cutting line named “excellent”. Excellent classes are well understood and are parallel to totally transcendental theories, have models in all cardinals, have the amalgamation property, and satisfy the Los conjecture. A predual of B_σ-spaces is investigated. A predual of a predual of B_σ-spaces is also investigated,which can be used to investigate the boundedness property of the commutators. The relation between Herz spaces and local Morrey spaces is discussed. As an application of the duality results, one obtains the boundedness of the singular integral operators, the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operators and the fractional integral operators, as well as the commutators generated by the bounded mean oscillation(BMO) and the singular integral operators.What is new in this paper is that we do not have to depend on the specific structure of the operators. The results on the boundedness of operators are formulated in terms of B_σ-spaces and B_σ-spaces together with the detailed comparison of the ones in Herz spaces and local Morrey spaces. Another application is the nonsmooth atomic decomposition adapted to B_σ-spaces.  相似文献

In this paper, details of student difficulties in understanding the concept of acceleration and the mathematical and physical/intuitive sources of these are delineated by utilizing the teaching experiment methodology. As a result of the study, two anchoring analogies are proposed that can be used as a diagnostic tool for students’ alternative conceptions. These can be used in teaching to highlight the peculiarity of acceleration concept. This study portrays how seeing acceleration as ‘rate of change’ of a quantity (velocity) and recognizing the consequences of such a definition are hindered in certain ways which in turn negatively affect learning the concept of force. This is also an example that illustrates that a rather “simple” mathematical concept (i.e., rate of change) for the expert can become a complex phenomenon when embedded in a physical concept (i.e., acceleration) which is consistently found to be as a misconception among learners at various levels that is widely occurring and very resistant to change.  相似文献

In this note we consider the property of being constrained in the bidual, for the space of Bochner integrable functions. For a Banach spaceX having the Radon-Nikodym property and constrained in its bidual and forY ⊂ X, under a natural assumption onY, we show thatL 1 (μ, X/Y) is constrained in its bidual andL 1 (μ, Y) is a proximinal subspace ofL 1(μ, X). The (G'/G, 1/G)-expansion method for finding exact travelling wave solutions of nonlinear evolution equations, which can be thought of as an extension of the (G'/G)-expansion method proposed recently, is presented. By using this method abundant travelling wave so- lutions with arbitrary parameters of the Zakharov equations are successfully obtained. When the parameters are replaced by special values, the well-known solitary wave solutions of the equations are rediscovered from the travelling waves.  相似文献

In this paper we prove new Hardy-like inequalities with optimal potential singularities for functions in W1,p(Ω), where Ω is either bounded or the whole space and also some extensions to arbitrary Riemannian manifolds. A necessary condition for a (non-autonomous) ordinary differential equation to be exactly solved by a one-step, finite difference method is that the principal term of its local truncation error be null. A procedure to determine some ordinary differential equations exactly solved by a given numerical scheme is developed. Examples of differential equations exactly solved by the explicit Euler, implicit Euler, trapezoidal rule, second-order Taylor, third-order Taylor, van Niekerk’s second-order rational, and van Niekerk’s third-order rational methods are presented.  相似文献
